Parking Brake Adjustment/cleaning

Hi Everyone, my parking brake seems to stick on when the car has been stood for a few weeks, so, I intend to replace the rear discs and clean the parking brake has anyone seen some form of tutorial or can give me detailed "how to" Many thanks

There is a tutorial for the 1st gen LS on lexls.com; I don't know if the '98 is the same in this department.

BTW, he doesn't slacken the adjusters first, and therefore struggles to get the disc off.

Before starting, I would suggest ordering replacement shoe retaining pins and cups from the dealer - mine were rusty (which I discovered only after dismantling) and I had to do the job twice.

This is not a nice job, getting the caliper off can be difficult - as can refitting the springs and retainers.

(The parking brake is not self-adjusting on the 1st gen.)

Leaving the parking brake on for weeks at a time will cause the shoes to stick to the drum, the shoes never really wear as they are only used when parking but dust and damp causes problems.

I only use my parking brake when really needed as the park position on the transmission prevents the car going anywhere when engaged, so in the garage the parking brake is left off with the car in park.
