Instrument Panel Back Lighting Failure

Recommended Posts

Yep, happens with the Mk1 and Mk11 with age.

Surprised yours has lasted so well. Searched for the solution on my Mk11 and found that Chris Vince was the best and most cost effective.

Solution is to contact him coz he re-solders the innards to make it like new.

Hi Malc,

Thanks for the info about Chris Vince, I've been in contact and he has been very helpful.

The result so far is that (under his detailed instructions) I've removed the binnacle and it should be with him today for repair!

I'm eagerly awaiting the results, he said it should be back with me before the weekend.

I'll report the results after it has been installed.

This is my first experience with the club, so far, with your help it has been very good.

Many thanks from

Dennis

Hey, I had a few quotes prior and they ranged from a few £00 with a company in Rochester to £1600 with lexus !

I decided to go down to see Chris for a day out and he just quickly removed the dash, popped it on his workbench and an hour or so later it was like new, then a 10 min job putting it back in the car.

Really nice guy too and he's done lots of them he tells me.

Good luck with it.

I was fortunate enough to have a friend with a tiny soldering iron and some electronics knowledge, he did mine for the cost of the parts. In the case of the lighting capacitor it was 20p!
