Keyless Entry On Is200D - Newbie Question

Recommended Posts

Evening All - Took delivery of my is200d today. When the cars locked, I approach it with the key in my pocket and grasping the door handle attempt to open the door. Nothing happens, the car remains locked. When the door has been unlocked via the button on the fob I press the button on the door handle to lock the car and I just hear a long beep. Am I being incredibly thick?

Regards

The way it works on IS220d (i hope is same with 200d) is that there is a sensor in the inside of the handle. Approach your car with the key in your pocket. Feel the inside of the driver side door handle with your hand. If the sensor detects your hand it will open the lock. Then you can pull the handle and the car will open. When you are tyring to lock the car with button on the handle with keys in your pocket and hear a long beep means the car cannot be locked. either the lights are on, or another key is present inside the car or something similar. You may be able to peak at the display in speedo panel to see if it is telling you why its not able to lock the car.

I thought I had a problem with mine until I realised that my wife was putting her handbag (containing the spare key) in the boot!

I have to say that start buttons, keyless entry and auto wipers are things I would pay to have deleted from the spec of most cars these days.

Simon - That is exactly what has happened to me. Spare key was in the boot in the wife's bag.

Many thanks for pointing me in right direction.

Cheers

:)

A friend had an interesting one last year. He and his wife drove home, he got out and went into the house while she drove off to an appointment 50 miles away. When she got there she couldn't lock the car or start the engine because the key was in his pocket. This was in a Range Rover.

I guess the Lexus gives you a brief warning beep when the key goes put of range but if you don't pick up on this the same thing could happen.
