Hi everyone

Been looking through my service book and the last 5 stamps have been by a company called 'Bargoynes' service and maintenance, Toyota and Lexus Specialists. There is no telephone number or address. The seller seemed genuine (private sale) and was selling the car for his brother who has emigrated (hmmmm) anyhoo, he said that this was a local garage that his brother went to all the time in St Andrews where his brother lived ( car was in Alloa near Fife.

Does anyone in scotland (or anywhere) know this garage as I cant seem to track it down and getting worried that all is not good?

Don't think you need to worry Burgoynes are a genuine garage based in Falkirk area. WHen my wife's last civic had a blow out on the M80, she called the AA (No spare tyre, just a can of air) they sent Burgoynes (or however it's spelt) with a low-loader to take it home.

Hi djanderso, Yes I seen them when I done a google search, the problem is they are Burgoynes but my stamp says Bargoynes so either they made a spelling error on their stamp spanning 5 years or they are a different company or as suspected they don't exist. It Maybe that they have legitimately folded with the way things are but cant seem to find them anywhere. Apparently he lived in St Andrews

I stay about 15 miles from St Andrews and have owned toyotas /lexus for a lot of years and am pretty sure I would have heard of them if they claim to be toyota lexus specialists - and have never heard of them sorry mate.

If it was a private sale I doubt you will have any real legal comeback - sold as seen buyer beware and all that. If he seemed reasonable and genuine go back to him and ask for some cash back - unless he can prove garage does exist and maybe threaten to go to trading standards/police etc and he might wobble a bit.

No probs - Nothing to lose by giving him a call and see what his attitude is. I would also check the MOT history on line and see if the mileages at services match up . http://www.direct.gov.uk/en/Motoring/OwningAVehicle/Mot/DG_10020539

Get garage doing pre mot to give it a good check over and hopefully all goes well

Apart from a couple of knee caps, arms, and legs if he turns out to be a real dodgy character

Seriously though, it's hassle you can probably do without so hopefully nothing will show up and it turns out to be all ok.

have you looked through the online mot history? i know it wont tell you aboutthe company but would be good to see if it lost a few thousand miles at any time?

it goes back to 2005/6

http://motinfo.direct.gov.uk/internet/jsp/ECHID-Internet-History-Request.jsp

mine lost 60,000 in 1 year (... i wonder how!) scaming c**s thought it was high enough at 130,000 miles :-(

hope it helps anyways mate

Cheers shan just done that, very interesting reading.

Hopefully the car is legitimate. I would suggest however that the following points might be well worth checking out.

1/ Does the address on the V5 tally with St Andrews as claimed?

2/ Does the name match the sellers name? (brothers?)

3/ Can you not contact the person named on the V5?

4/ Is the V5 the new type red fronted V5? (they are replacing ALL V5's because of the theft of a load of blank V5's)

5/ Is it HPI clear? {checked by you not by the seller)

6/ Does the seller live where the car was?

7/ Is VIN correct and also in the correct place?

8/ Is there any sign that he is selling other cars?

If he is selling cars from a house posing as a private seller but is in fact a dealer Trading Standards would be interested I can assure you.

6/ Does the seller live where the car was? NO Car was in Clackmannen Owner in St Andrews

7/ Is VIN correct and also in the correct place? Seems to be
