Hi I'm the proud owner of a lovely mk1 gs300, 95 year. Love it to pieces. Just got a couple of problems that I would like advice with. Firstly the boot shuts ok, however it won't lock. And secondly the hand break light is permanatley on and can't figure out why.

Can anyone help?

hi welcome to the club.

i too have a lexus gs300 mk1 sport which i have had since 2009 its an awesome car.pictures of my car are in the photo gallery under my gs300 by kevinsgs300.

you fault with the handbrake light firstly i would check your brake fluid level and check that your brake lights bulbs are ok.

i would also suggest you give tigerfish a pm he may be able to help.

hope this helps.

cheers kev.

Hi there

Welcome to the club.

If the handbrake fluid is okay, it would seem likely that its either the sensor for the brake fluid OR that the sensor/switch for the handbrake is dodgy. I've had the latter on a different car.

With regard to the boot lock, as Tigerfish asks, what kind of 'broken'?

If memory serves right, you can falsely trigger the lock when its open by pressing a screwdriver blade in the lid side. It would be worth trying this to see which part of the lock isn't working. Are the jaws open (unlocked) or closed? If you can close them using a screwdriver, can you unlock using the key or boot release? It might be that they (the lock and catch) are not lined up properly (they can loosed over time) or it could be that the lock is knackered (to use a technical term)

I've now got the boot to shut and lock. Will only unlock with the key. At least this is a start.

I'm after a owners handbook for it now, as mine didn't have one. Any ideas were I can pick one up or download?

Have you got the remote boot lock inside the car unlocked? There is a lock barrel on r/h side of dashbottom which if pushed in will only allow boot to be opened with master key.
