Battery Charging While Connected To The Car

i have a 98 gs300 the Battery has gone almost flat (wont turn engine over) can i charge the Battery while its still connected to the car or could it do damage?

if i disconnect the Battery will i lose any codes for the radio or sat nav etc?

Apart from any risk of potentially damaging any electronic items, it is always safer to disconnect the Battery and preferably remove it. A spark can cause a fire or explosion because of the presence of gases given off while charging. It is always safer to remove the Battery. If you do charge it whilst still connected to your car circuits only trickle charge, do not boost charge.

Do you know why your Battery is down? If the Battery is just knackered and needs replacing you will need to disconnect it to replace it anyway.
