Locking Wheel Nuts

Recommended Posts

Morning all

I've got that horrid job of trying to remove locking wheels nut without the tool, because the bell piece that sold me the car failed to tell me this item was missing !

I've seen vidoe's on the best way to remove them, so this shouldn't be an issue, but if anyone can advise on which set to get for an IS200 Sport ( i've been looking around), i'd be gratefull :)

there are special tools for this. go down to the local tyre place and ask them first. if not drill them a little bit smaller than a phillips screwdriver you have and while they are still hot from the drilling smash in the screwdriver with a hammer and try to remove them that way. if you have a screwdriver with a spanner grip then this is very good. you will need to drill into them 8-10 mm. remember you have the pin bult behind there and dont want to drill into that.

and toyota oem ones fit as they are the same for all alloy wheels

thanks for that, i've seen video's on using a 20mm socket belted on with a hammer.

I once had to do this on an escort RS turbo, drilling a hole in the centre and then using a headbolt removal tool from an RS2000.

Problem is, these wheelsare nice so don;t really wantto go drilling around if i can help it

i just called them up, they said to bring the car up (which is 20 mins away for me), and then can have a look and find a key to fit : ) result, thanks Andy

When my wheel nut key snapped on me last year I ended up just smashing an old socket over the nuts with a hammer. That got the buggers off.

I bought replacement locking nuts off eBay. Fortunately these ones are more like proper nuts rather than being those stupid round ones with the flimsy pins in.
