Does anybody know for sure what wheels will fit a mk 4 LS400 (99T), in particular will those from an earlier LS fit?

I ask because of the problems I read on another thread due to the bigger calipers on later models.

The problem I have had on my mk3 is the size of the calipers not the discs. Are the discs bigger on the mk 4?

Good luck with your search and beware alloys that will fit a mk 1 or 2 won't necessarily fit the mk 3 or 4 I've found.......doh!

Sorry Pete, you're right of course, I meant calipers and will amend my post.

Ah, I see, so it's because the earlier cars had smaller diameter wheels that won't clear the calipers.

So as long as the wheels are 16 inch from a LS, they should be ok?

Thanks for the replies.

Running 17" Misubishi Evo 9 wheels on mine, no clearance problems on the series II LS and given the gap between rim and caliper should fit series III and IV.

They don't fill the arches though.

Nice wheels Steve. They look similar to the ones that were on my old supercharged xedos 9.

I like the more closed type like the later 430 alloys but I never see them for sale when I actually have any cash!

I've just seen this auction for a set of LS wheels http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/lexus-ls400-alloy-wheels-/221108775085?pt=UK_CarParts_Acc_Wheels_tyres_Rims_Car_Wheels_ET&hash=item337b1c28ad#ht_749wt_1151

The interesting thing is that the vendor had them refurbished to go on a 1998 car, then discovered they would only fit up to a 97.

I kind of thought that a wheel from a 97 would fit a 98 on as well, or mk3 on a mk4, but this would suggest otherwise.

yes , the mk1&2 came with 15" wheels , pretty sure you dont want those on your mk4 (also they were ugly)

Thats interesting to me anyway, a 1995 Mk 3 owner (I think Mk 3). I had a blow out on wondeful new years day, I tried to fit the spare only to find it was a 15'' inch & would not fit, how it got there I don't know but your post answers what its probably from, still got it with good tyre if anyones interested, needs refurb.

I have a set of LS430 wheels fitted to my mk3

I think the problem comes when you try to go the other way, by fitting older wheels to a newer car.

To be honest, I think the only certain method is to try fitting them to the car before buying.

Hi

The Mk3 and 4 have exactly the same calipers / Hubs and discs

so the Mk3 10 hole 16" alloy wheel fits the Mk4 as well

The Mk1 has 15" wheels and the Mk2 16", the 16" look similar to the mk3 16" 10 hole but they are different and do not clear the bigger calipers of the Mk3 and 4

I also noticed the seller who posted the 16" alloy wheels on eBay and said they wouldn't fit their Mk4 but they look like the 16" 10 hole Mk3s to me

which do fit the Mk4

Thanks very much for that Maurice, very informative.

Hi

Have you looked at the 17" DHP wheels?

IMO they suit the MK4 best.

I happen to have a spare set which I might be tempted to part with PM me if you are interested..

I prefer to keep the higher profile, though I agree they look nice, but thanks anyway Keith.

I had DHP wheels on the MK3 I had a couple of years ago. I have a spare set of DHP's and they have tapered bolt holes and 19mm bolts, where as the optional wheels on my MK2 GS has flat (parallel)bolt holes and 21mm bolts. Thread size is the same. Both sets of wheels are made by OZ. Make sure you get the bolts if you buy a used set of wheels. The DHP's have wide low profile tyres, I prefer the 225/55/17's I've got on the GS 2x Conti and 2 x Goodyear.
