Any of you guys know how easy it is to release the nice piece of wood in the centre console where the gear shift lever is ?

I am sure that this is obscuring the movement of my cup holder and needs to be just shifted forward just a few mm's I do not want to damage this just to release the cupholder, but I hate things not being just as they should be !

Thanks for your help and advice - in advance.

Hi Lightyear,

I have a problem with my centre consol squeaking.. it is really annoying.

I have the ES300 model and the car looks very similar inside and out... the console looks very similar too.. and from looking at mine it is quite a tricky job removing the console.

The bit i found annoying was getting the carpet to come away from inside the foot well.. i is really easy to break the clips. You have to remove the carpet from the side of the console to reach the bolts.

Are you sure it is not the spring inside the cup holder?

Is this on a LS400?.

If so, get 2 pieces of sheet matal about 2x3" and bend over the ends about half an inch. Cover with tape to stop scratching. You should be able to hooke these between the wood and the edge of console. Start at the rear near the cupholder and GENTLY prize up. After you have pulled it clear, and with the gear lever fully back, pull it towards you, and it should come away. To refit, make sure it goes fully forward before pushing down the rear end.

Hope this helps

BE CAREFUL the wood is thin around the gear lever cutout.

Mike
