Sorry to hear that!

Have you owned the car from new? It sounds like they had keys. I heard of this happening on a TV programme a few years ago, watchdog or something like that.

The criminals would sell the car all legitimately, some of them were even private dealers in on the scam, somebody else would follow you home, monitor your movements etc so they knew your routine and where the car gets parked, then come back with a spare key. In some cases up to a year later and just drive off with your motor.

Hope you get your car back.

Good luck

Chris

Did you have the car from new? If not how many keys did you get when purchased? There are normally 3 keys so if you didn't get 3 there has always been 1 in somewhere else.

would also be worth having a look on gumtree, eBay and autotrader for RX300's matching your cars colour and year. you never know might be on for sale and if you get lucky quietly ring them to hold it for you for viewing as to buy then call the police once you get there..

Don't think any of the previous gen RX had keyless go so the BMW current method wouldn't work. Also doubtful that anyone spending that much on the required equip would be after 7 year old prev gen.

Very likely as others have stated someone had a spare key, is the car a recent purchase?

Alternatively do you keep car keys near your front door? People fish keys out through letterbox.

Not wishing to cast doubt on the cast iron honesty of the garage trade but have you had it serviced recently? There was a scam doing the rounds of mechanics of dubious morals getting a spare key cut but avoiding the registration of the key and its electronic PATS system by taking the PATS electronic module out of the original key and taping it behind the trim on the steering column, thus the owner with the original key would suspect nothing as the car started every time as usual, but of course anyone with a duplicate "mechanical only" key could also start the car as the car just read the module taped inside the trim!

I know this happened to several makes, and if the Lexus uses the same key/module design it can also happen to us.
