No-One Mentioned The Alloy Wheel Problem!

Recommended Posts

Hi All

so I have had the lexus now 2 weeks and can honestly say loving every minute of it, the only thing that was letting it down was the corrosion on the wheels.

Its a 2008 but the alloys looked about 20 years old, so after a lot of research I booked A1 alloys to visit me at my place of work, the guy turned up when he said he would and took roughly 3 hours to transform my alloys into sparkling shiny new ones.

so if yours are looking a bit ropey I would certainly recommend A1 alloys..

I would just like top point out that I have no affiliation with the company and the only reason for my recommendation to help, the same way this forum helped me in my research.

I attended a 'directors invitation event' this weekend and asked about corrosion on alloys and wiper arms on the 450h.....not a known problem, I was told.

Worryingly, when I looked at an 09 rx450h on the forecourt, both the wiper arms and the alloys were bubbling. When I go to buy, I will insist on some extra cover for these. 50k is a lot for something that scabs up in 3 years.......now, what did I do with the Q7 brochure..lol

FYI, Bought a 3yo 400h back in May from a dealer. When I pointed out the corrosion on the wheels, they said they would contact Lexus UK and see if they would replace the wheels. Lexus UK threw out the claim, but the dealer volunteered to have the wheels refurbished at their cost.

Yep just three years old and scabby alloys......good to know we have such amazing support from Lexus UK :whistling:

And my wifes 14 year old BMW 3 series is wearing its original alloys still in perfect condition, without a spot of corrosion.

Had my 2001 RX300 wheels refurbished 9 months ago by The Wheel Specialist in Manchester, £260 for all 5 wheels, tyres off and rebalanced and in a colour of my choice. I chose to have them in Gunmetal. I was a returning customer as I had my previous LS400 wheels done five years previosly. Took the car in for 9am and looked around the city before picking it up at 4pm. Why get replacements from Lexus which will probably go the same way as the originals?
