What Wheels Are Suitable For My Ls400?

Hi, I'm a new Club member and only had my LS since may. It's a mint green 1997 model with only 58,000 miles and I love it!

It does however, have newish non standard 18" alloys with 245 40 18 tyres. I've been told that these are Audi copies, (7 spoke black and chrome) but do look great.

The trouble is wheel wobble. I've had all four balanced twice and found that at least two are warped so I was going to take them to a specialist to have straightened.

There is a Lexus secondhand set on eBay, 225 60 16's, correct for my car but they're £225 and they could be similarly damaged and seem quite dear.

Does anyone know if wheels from any other make of car would fit eg. Audi, Merc, BMW, Jag, etc?

My wheels do have the correct spigot rings BTW.

Also when started up from cold, the engine idles at 13,000 ish then settles to 6000 ish when warm. Is this ok?, seems a bit fast when cold to me.

Apart from these niggles, what a car!

Any advice greatly appreciated.

David

Hello David and welcome to the LOC and congrats on buying a low mileage LS400.

There are several other manufacturer's that have the same fitting on their wheels mostly Japanese for example the Mazda RX7/8, Nissan Skyline, Misubishi EVO.

As you already know buying secondhand is dodgy with possible unseen defects or bad repairs plus there is no history as to how they have been used/abused.

The important bits are on the link below regarding PCD and offset.

As for the engine RPM I assume you mean 1300 on cold idle and 600 when warm, it sounds about right 650 +/- 50 rpm is the official warm idle figure. As you are probably aware the engines are all alloy so warm up really quickly

Hi, thanks Steve. Shame about the wheels, I'll get them 'straightened' first, then look at alternatives if not cured. I added an extra 0 to the revs (duh). So the cold idle isn't too fast then? Would you recomend oil and filters and brake pads from eBay or go for proper Lexus ones.

Also, there's no record of the cambelt having been changed even though the previous owner said it has. Again genuine part or copy and what's an average price for the job?

When I work out how, I'll put some pictures up of the car.
