Recommended Oil And Filter

depends on how many miles one does on a monthly basis! the more miles you do the faster oil burns the less miles the less oil burns but a cars odometer mileage will also accelerate this process; and with my car being at 111,000 i do about 800 - 1000 miles every month so i tend to check my oil every 3 weeks and top up if required. any 5W30 in the market which meets API SJ, SL, SM or ILSAC GF3 will do although 10w40 wont hurt the engine but 5w30 is better for it. so long as you change your oil every 10,000 miles or 12 months then any brand will do but i personally lean towards performace ones like Castrol, Mobil, Shell and tho i havent used Motul before they are meant to be really good oils for Jap cars so mite try that for my next oil service. you can pick a genuine oil filter and sump plug washer for a 10tener here. happy servicing!!

Anyone any views on those blitz or knn oil filters . I do about 1000 miles a month mate and i thought a thicker viscosity oil may help in the comsumption problem . I always change oil every 6 months.John, those genuine filters do look a decent deal.

both blitz and K&N are established companies so they wont get the design of an oil filter wrong as they specialise in filtration... you can switch to 10W40 which is a slightly thicker oil viscocity wise but does not flow fast through the engine during cold(freezing) temperatures comapred to the 5W's if you stick to a good brand you should be ok with 10W's for 6 months change intervals..oh and i've got my eye on those genuine filters for my next oil service i mean you cant go wrong with the price with free shipping thrown in aswell. its Lexus Birminghams eBay shop so its all good.

Personally I'd say you have an oil leak if it's used that much in 6 months. My IS200 didn't use a drop of oil over 12 months covering 10K.

Most people just stick with the OEM Toyota filters, you can get aftermarket ones but they are no better than stock.

And as far as oil, just stick with 5/30 as the booklet recommends. I use Fuchs Titan Race Pro which is a Fully Ester Synthetic oil, it's not the cheapest but its great stuff.

Definately no oil leak , everything dry and clean ,its been gradually been worsening over last 18 months . I had my car serviced and not sure what oil was used so i must ask mechanic , as he is a former toyota engineer.Im not too concerned .

I will have to get under car again and see if ive missed owt , the actual amount ive used is the difference between the top and btm points on the dipstick . Honestly guys the engine is very clean i last looked 4 weeks ago . I just wondered as the engine ages if it uses more oil ie piston rings or piston wear

Put in 5w30 oil and toyota filter as advised by lexus . See how we do . No leaks found around engine, sump or filter either. Ive used one of those magnetic blue sump plugs this time for a change.

I've got one of those magnetic sump plugs too. Can't hurt to have a bit of extra filtration, although I'll be interested to see if there's anything on it when I do my next oil change.

And I not finding a leak is good and bad news, because if it's not leaking it must be burning it.
