Speedo Problem

I have a 93 ls400 the speedo has stopped but the odo and everything else still work I have Been told this is the speed sensor connected to the gear box is this correct is there a way to trouble shoot this without spending ***** loads of money if this is the case where about on the box is it located and what is te oem part number for the item ... I live in Australia so is there any after market brands of this item I can't seem to find them in Australia

If the odometer is still working I think it uses the same sensor so would suggest the transmission speed sensor is working.

There is a fairly common problem with the cluster in that excess oil on the needle spindle stops the needle from moving.

Give the cluster cowling a sharp thump on top to see if the needle resumes operation before diving into the rest of the system.

My tacho needle did the same thing a month or 2 ago and hasn't faulted since the thump method revived it.
