Ls430 Vs Bmw E39 03 530I - Running Costs Comparison If Anyones Interes

Recommended Posts

Just want to compare my running costs up against E39 BMW ( this would apply to most BMWs petrol 6 cyl between 1998-2005). So far had a minor service on the LS430, and had my BMW for 4-5 years so went through quite a bit of servicing with them.

Lexus Dealer minor Service inc oil £120

BMW INDY equivalent Service Insp 1 inc oil - £200

Bmw main dealer insp 1 - £230

Lexus Brake Fluid flush at Toyota Dealer - £29.99

BMW Brake Fluid flush Indy - £50

Lexus Ferrodo Rear Pads -£25

BMW Ferrodo Rear Pads - £23

Lexus Specific Tranny Fluid - £40 / 6L

BMW Specific Tranny Fluid - £100 / 6L

So far I am impressed, bearing in mind the LS430 is one class higher than the E39 5 series aswell. I am sure the 745i would be even more expensive making the gap even larger! And if I got the BMW dealer involved, I am confident the gap would get even bigger than that!

Ahh the classic BM trouble You. My mates 740 with 85 k on it , in the last 10 k had a gearbox, cats ,erg valve, prop shaft doughnut, Air bag , ball joints, secondary water heater valve + numerous other bits & bobs. He finally had enough & sold it. Now bought an s type Jag (out of the frying pan into the fire springs to mind).

How did you manage to drag yourself away from them? Mike

Interesting. I bought a 1986 Mercedes 560SEL in 1997 and kept it until rust killed i in 2004. During that time I had it serviced by a Mercedes specialist in Wimbledon (Steve Redfearn who did an excellent job). He was significantly cheaper than our local Mercedes dealer in Guildford, but I don't remember many bills coming to less than £1,000, and there were a few in the £2,000 range.

I bought a new Lexus GS300 in 2000 which I replaced in October 2011 with a 100,000 mile LS430. I have always had both cars serviced at Lexus Guildford, and I don't remember many (if any) bills reaching £1000. In fact the bills seem to work out about 20% more expensive than the Independent servicing on my wife's Ford Focus. Whenever I've checked the Lexus Guildford prices against anyone else, they come out cheaper.

Of course, one of the reasons for the lower bills is the fact that things tend not to break on Lexus cars anywhere nearly as often as BMW (I had a new 3 Series for a year in 1999) and Mercedes/
