Coil-On-Plug Question

I've been googling, as one does, and it seems the VVTi engine has coil-on-plugs?

Will these physically fit into/onto earlier variants of the 1UZ-FE engine? The reason I ask - I am turning a Mk3 into a trackday car, which involves a Megasquirt ECU; if the '98 COPs will fit into a '96 (IIRC) engine, then my "where do I get 8 coils from" problem is resolved :)

Cheers,

Ade.

PS: The 4 litre engine sounds SUPERB with no exhausts on it!

True; I had planned on using 8 standard coils (of the type fitted to the Mk2 & 3, not sure about the Mk1 but I assume it's the same), are COP units lighter? I'm guessing "yes"...

What's that in French? (apologies, I have mostly switched over to metrical weights, purely due to a reduction in brain power due to age/alcohol/girls [delete as applicable])

Anyway, I've just bought a complete set for £65 + postage, even if they don't fit the earlier engine I can use them on my road car...

Sounds similar to the std coil then, I can't believe that's much more than 1/4 kg... Still, fingers crossed I'll save the weight of the HT leads at any rate :)

Pics/prgress thread - no problem, will do... see the main forum in a few mins.
