Recommended Posts

Driving to work this evening and my car warning triangle came on, also the engine light bottom left came on and on the bottom right what looks like the ABS light(a car with wiggley lines at rear) came on and eventually went into limp mode has anyone got any ideas for my is220d incidentally it did stutter for a milli second on Saturday like a fuel problem:((((

Is it true that certain fault readers at garages don't have the updated software to read all faults on all marks of cars as I want to take it to a local garage if I can to find the fault before going to my usual lexus garage( 120 miles round trip) could someone tell if it's true

Sounds possible. All I can say is, I took my sons Lexus 220d to a local garage with the dreaded VSC and the fault was traced and fixed and the error removed. It was a broken wire on a sensor.

It is most likely true. The Lexus hardware cost many thousands compared to most garages who's test equipment cost a few hundreds and will be a universal software to cover many car brands. It certainly true that most back street garages will not match the bespoke kit from Lexus.

That said, your garage may still be able to I diagnose the fault and if its a cheap check then it might be worth it to save the journey.

Worse comes to worse, you can always fall back on Lexus if all else fails.

I bought a £30 code reader from eBay and it reads all the codes of all the major manufacturers. OBD is supposed to be an industry standard. If yo get a code that a reader can't identify as a fault then you can look up the code easily.

Paid 30 have the codes read DPF filter seems to be the problem and it's going in Monday to be taken off and cleaned I do use a DPF and CAT cleaner regularly as well as other treatment BG 244 etc but before I had the car it probably was neglected so I will update you all next week

When this happened to me I took it on the motor way at night and drove it at really high revs ( 3- 4k all the way) . I had to restart it a few times to get rid of limp mode. This cleared the DPF and the code and I finally drove home with no light and no limp mode. The light has never come back.

Had the DPF filter cleaned and regenerated and all seems all ok but deep down I know it will happen again so want to have it removed now as at 120000 miles the DPF is the wrong side of being any good long term I am in the east Sussex area and have seen removal/mapping out also emulators which trick the Ecu into thinking there is still one there, but I want to do this the right way and have a budget of around 600 pounds so I think it can be done as I really like the car but just don't need the worry of it breaking again if anyone can show me somewhere that it can be done I would be very grateful

Why remove it if it has now been cleaned? Wouldn't it be better to drive on with a newly cleaned DPF. If you give it a good wicking every 3 months down the m-way that should do the regeneration/cleaning out for you. If you had the DPF removed are you not likely to fail the MOT? I don't know the answer to that myself...but its a question you need to know the answer to.

Having said that I have heard of people taking their Lexus 220d's to somewhere in the West Country.... maybe Yeovil or Taunton. Someone put a post up here about it. I think the garage was called something like 'P and P'. Have a good search of the forum. If I find it I'll post up a link for you.

LoAds of crap..

Check ur fuel cap ( if its made from plastic) if its closing properly !!! If clicks when close and its still lose that means you loose fumes. Thats where all sensors start to lit. .to not mention that you mite experience some loses of power too. Its easy fix: 45£ and new plastic cap. Good luck.
