Has Anyone Got Online Search To Work?

Recommended Posts

I have a new 2013 RX 450H & cannot get the online search in Navigation to work with my HTC One X Android phone.

Has anyone else succeeded?

In the car I have set up my country & phone provider and selected Google as my search engine and have set up a My Lexus account but have the following problems:

1. Even though I have entered & saved my My Lexus user name and password in Setup the system will not remember the password & I have to enter it each time.

2. Online search worked twice but now will not. System says Internet connection failed. I have checked the Bluetooth set up and Dial Up Networking (DUN) is not greyed out.

Phone calls and SMS messaging al work fine with the phone.

Any advice welcome.

Regards

Paul

hello.

i don't have it on my RX400h, so i don't know specifically, but have you checked the manual and / or spoken to the dealer?

Also, maybe it is not compatible with some phones. I would try the latest phone software updates.

sorry can't be more helpful.. maybe someone will know.

Got a new work phone (Blackberry 9900 Bold ) , paired the phone and tried Online search an it worked straight away.

The Bold is listed on the website as allowing internet bridging so lucked out there!

Got to say after trying it the search and results were nowhere near as good or comprehensive as in my previous 5series, bit disappointed really.

That's good. I upgraded from an HTC One X to an HTC One and Messaging now works but Online search is still not working. With the Messaging I wish there was an option to only get text messages popping up and not email but there isn't. Don't need to know someone wants to sell me Viagra when I am driving around the M25!

I find it rather funny that we have the same car and the same phone :hehe:

I can't believe I'm saying this in 2015, but do you remember when a lot of new cars would only work with a Nokia 6310 and even had plastic trays made to fit a handful of different phones?

Most people ended up buying a second eBayed handset and either got a separate SIM and number and left in the car all the time - a real throwback to "car phones" in the early 90's!

You could follow a similar approach and get a second hand phone model from the "compatibility" list and maybe a "3" SIM card on a cheap contract with lots of data. You can divert your calls on the mobile that doesn't work with the Lex to the phone that does.

Unsure hoe text messages would work (ie: forwarded).

I think some mobile networks may be able to provide you with a "twinned" SIM card that would allow you to have your same number in another handset although it has been a while since I last spoke / enquirer about this... Hopefully they still do it?

Good luck!

Thanks Chris - the challenge is that any new car takes 3-4 years from design to delivery and it is getting impossible to keep pace with fast change in technology. By the time engineers are integrating or testing Iphone 4/5 Iphone 6/7 would be out by the time of car being launched.

Anyway I have good news for users who want to use the online search feature (think I have cracked it without using 6310!). Thanks for the tip, a nostalgic reminder of my days in telecom industry :)

I have downloaded BlueDUN app from android play store, removed existing pair connection from navigation and phone (Samsung S5 in my case) and then repaired again.

I have now Google search working with Samsung S5 using the portal account. Iphone Bluetooth stack is pathetic so there is no hope with Iphone 4/5 however I think Iphone 6 has DUN protocol working so if anyone can check that, would be great.

Another neat benefit of Android phone is that messages are read as they arrive and emails can be read as well. Very useful and clever feature with full protocol stack working (under detailed Bluetooth setting).

Having testing the online search it is not the smartest feature as it might be quicker checking on phone and then entering the destination.

Any questions, will try to help.

Agreed Iphone Bluetooth is nobbled beyond any hope!

At least with the Iphone 5/5s/6, Siri (in "car" mode) will read messages and can perform Internet search by voice.

With all the bad experiences with OEM units (once they get to an age I can afford the cars) are just woefully out of date, from the sat nav maps to newer phone integration, I certainly in hindsight wouldn't have been so fixated on the ML setup as would have popped in a really good aftermarket kit and even tho at the time I REALLY didn't see the point of the LE trim level, I do appreciate that it would have been a good used car buy with the right options such as auto-boot, Xenons/HIDs and AFS, without levinson audio/sat nav and air suspension. A great condition one of those with a good aftermarket double din sat nav and reversing camera hookup would be great!

So, the moral of my story, don't always judge a Lex by its spec.

As for later 450h's, I don't think you can get it without a large screen built in, hence as a used purchase will see many newer owners in the future on the forum unable to link up their Samsung 9's and Iphone 10's!

Cheers,

Chris
