Car Running Cool

Recommended Posts

So yet another little problem with my reliable Lexus. Drove 20 something miles tonight and the car didn't get up to temperature. I'm guessing the thermostat so although not a massive problem just more time consuming and annoying!

This is as warm as the car got.

Haha believe me mate the thought of getting rid of this car had crossed my mind a few times now. But I won't be giving it away

It's going to Lexus tomorrow as I have a slight steering wheel wobble only at 55-70mph. I've had 2 garages look at it and say there is nothing wrong but there obviously is as it never had this wobble before. Wonder how much Lexus will charge me for a thermostat?

I'd say that your wheel wobble is due to a sticking caliper!

Had the same prob myself last year and had the calipers freed off and all was good again.

Sorry to hear the constant problems Chris!

My mechanic doesn't have a clue what is causing the wobble, but I have a feeling is the calipers sticking. I didn't want to say anything to him because I didn't want to undermine the guy. It is so hard finding a decent and reasonably priced mechanic in my area. :(

No guys it's not callipers. 2 brand new ones in the last few months. Been through the sticky calliper a lot. Wheels spin fine when jacked up, no grinding and no other sticky calliper symptoms.

Oh and Noreen speak up, it's not undermining, sometimes even the pros need a point in the right direction :)

Just as a quick and cheaper option, and hope I'm not teaching you to suck eggs. But it may be worth parking the car with the front up a good incline and checking there's no air in the system, as an air lock can give this symptom.

Whats your annual mileage just out of interest?

Depends. I work freelance so sometimes the commute is long like it is at the moment, 80 mile round trip a day. But I've just 10 months doing just 6 miles per day so it fluctuates.

I've done 12,000 miles since I bought it a year ago.

hi,sorry,i do not belive like is any conection betwin temp.gauge and airlock on power stering...or maybe is?

The air lock can be right where the temperature sender is in some instances, this will cause it to read low.

But yes Chris, it may pay to park the car on an incline like I said and give the pipes a good squeeze to try and shift the air through. You're better off doing it with the radiator as the highest point, so the incline is necessary on these.

I suppose there's always a chance that your thermostat just got stuck or something too.
