I am planning to do a full service done on the car in a few
weeks’ time when – I want to do the following

Oil change

Oil filter change
Air filter change

Cabin filter change

Clean plugs (possibly replace?)

Front / rear brake pads.

I have done the brake pads on my old IS before and am fine
doing that – are slide pins still an issue with this newer model – worth
removing and cleaning? (I don’t want to disturb anything that doesn’t need
doing)

The oil and filter change I will be fine in doing but I have
read that rather than a filter in a “tin” which was on the old IS I have read
that this model (2007 IS250) has a paper filter within a housing unit – is this
correct? – a few searches on the web have listed both as replacement filters –
so don’t really know which one? I have found the location of the oil housing by
a search on the web and believe this to be under the front of the engine under a
panel. To remove this filter do you need a special tool?(if it’s the paper
filter type) – I guess in removing the panel it will be obvious what type It
is.

Air filter I am ok in changing and will be replacing this
with an oiled K&N as I had good results with the last one I
had.

Cabin filter – on the last IS this was located behind the
glove box – I believe this one is in the same location – do I need to remove the
box or can it be accessed without taking it off?

Spark plugs – these were replaced by the garage during a
pre-sale service but I am doubtful they were done – I will take them out to have
a look / clean or replace (I know they are expensive) if replacing are these OEM
only parts. Also are there any special tools required to change
these?

Apologies for all the questions – if there are any walk
through’s can you point them out to me – I am just lining the ducks up before
going ahead and getting hands dirty.

Anything else worth looking at while hands are dirty?
(cleaning throttle with carb cleaner?)

Thanks

You could just get the official service kit from Toyota which will give you all u need for the service?

As for the cabin filter I changed mines last week, was piece of cake, just make sure u set the air to cycle inside the car before turning it off otherwise u won't be able to access the filter...

Refer to this guide:

Air filters & oil are nice and easy to change. You do need a tool to undo the oil filter housing though, which is a reusable part. The oil filter o-ring and the sump plug felt gasket shouldn't be re-used though.

If you want to replace the spark plugs, you really should stick to OEM, plenty of tales of issues with non-OEM kit.

brake pads shouldn't be too challenging if you've not got corrosion issues.
