Evening,

I am trying to collect DIY step by step guides on brake changes for the IS-F. I have found a great one for the front discs and pads (looks fairly easy has anyone tried this themselves). However I am really struggling to find a similar guide for the rear discs (I imagine pads are the same). Does anyone know of a guide or have carried this out themselves, I would have thought it the same as the fronts my only concern being affecting the parking brake system!!

Cheers.

Having looked at the exploded diagrams for the ISF rear brakes it would appear that the job is fairly straightforward for a competent DIYer.

The pads are held in place by 2 retaining pins ( these in turn are held in place by a securing clip or spring wire) and a springy plate between the 2.

Remove the clips, pull out the pins and then pull the pads out.

Refitting is normal proceedure i.e.push the piston back with a suitable tool after opening the caliper bleed nipple, lightly grease the new pad contact points with copper grease and reassemble.

The handbrake will not be disturbed as it is a seperate system inside the disc/drum using brake shoes common to the LS400 and probably all Lexus rear brakes.

I'm going to do the fronts myself too. Where did you find the step by step guide?

Front pad change.

Looks pretty simple, after all they are brembo so designed for quick pad changes. I do think the rears are rather more complex.

£25+ VAT is very cheap are the lexus specialist or just a garage not that it makes a huge difference for brakes?

My local place will do them for £25+ vat, so for me its not worth getting mucky.

Wow! that is very cheap. looks like 1/2 an hour labour. Is that front and rear, disks and pads?

The £25+vat is just to do rear pads, they want £40+ VAT to do front discs and pads. so £65 +vat for all that needs doing.

They are a Independent tyre fitter, and they always get me a great price on my tyres and did my MOT last month.

I wouldn't let them service it obviously, but a job like this I would trust them to do.
