How much (typically) is an aircon regas & what is likely to go wrong? The A/C on my Mk4 hasn't worked since I bought it, until now that's been a problem I can live with, now I'm really suffering.... thing is, will a regas likely make it work again? FWIW, if I turn the a/c on or off from the touch screen, it doesn't seem to start/stop the compressor, so I'm wondering if there's more to it than just gas (or does the a/c system know it's out of gas & not switch on out of safety?

It seems that a re gas depends on where you go. Where I live it starts from £45 and goes up to about £85. The main thing is to have the dye test to see if you're leaking somewhere. Air con is supposed to be used for 30 mins a week to keep the seals from drying. A decent re gas engineer will be able to tell you if the compressor is working.

you can see if compressor working under bonnet, driven by fanbelt, you can see when clutch comes in,just cut the temp down on dash press auto

have a look under bonnet then turn a/c off,you should see the difference on compressor if its working

i leave mine on all the time on auto much better for a/c.i was told to do that by an engineer years ago, keeps everything working leave it on 20/21 all year round helps with demisting in winter as well

Would you expect a change in engine RPM when the A/C is engaged if the system has no gas? If so, then I can be pretty sure that the compressor is NOT engaging when I switch it on. The thing is, is that a safety thing (i.e. the compressor KNOWS it has no gas & therefore does not engage), or have I got an electrical fault (wouldn't be the first on this car). Basically, there's no point in having the system re-gassed if the compressor's on the fritz, or the relay's bust, or there's a broken wire...

I just had my ls430 done having had to source a new compressor from the states. Even with postage of $100 plus import duty, it was half the main dealer price! Full flush and special drying out kit before fitting by my specialist. Then a revisit a week later to ensure no debris still circulating in system. Big job.

He also stripped and soldered a fix in the two rear height sensors. £40 instead of £720!!!!!!!

Now a front parking sensor is not liking the heat and is randomly going off in city traffic. This will be my third one.

Also, the alloys refurb need redoing because of corrosion coming through in just 18 months which seems to be a common problem.

3 sets of brake discs with a warranty claim going into lexus to resolve the slight brake judder.

Only 66k miles on 2006 but a lot of issues. Getting tired of the hassle of visiting the garage all the time.

So much for renowned Lexus reliability?
