The cam chain does not require maintenance or replacement.

The belt on the front of the engine is the serpentine drive belt. It needs inspection at 60k miles and every 10k miles thereafter. Replacement is not required unless the belt is degraded or damaged.

Thanks guys.

That's some claim by Lexus that the chain will never need replacing (that's probably 'some' chain as well!!). They must have some idea how long they are expecting the engine to last to come up with a claim like that :o

Testament to their engineering if this is indeed true :)

On an IS220d, there are far bigger things to worry about than the chain....like the head gasket!

The chain is normally referred to as something that will "last the life of the engine" whatever that means....like pistons, crankshaft etc
