Having had my first Lexus since April, I am aware that sooner or later I am going to need a service. I have not been in the habit of using main dealers before - but then I have not had a lexus before. Given the sophistication of the vehicle there dont seem to be many independent specialists about, well certainly not in Gloucestershire anyway, so it seems that I will be using my local Lexus dealer.

I received an email the other day from Lexus advertising their "Lexus Essential Care" package. Do people consider this to be worthwhile and does it differ from normal servicing?

Also, Lexus were offering MOT's for "just £49", when most places are doing it for about half of that. Is there any good reason to use Lexus for MOTs?

Ring around your local Lexus dealerships and find the best
service cost then go back to your nearest dealership, they will normally match
it, I managed to knock my service cost down from £330 to £230 by shopping
around. As for the MOT, I have never used
Lexus for this, nor has my brother in law, we both use “just mot,s”, as in the
title they only do mot’s, so no incentive to perhaps find fault, and a free mot
if it fails.

Ps. I have no connection with “ just mot’s “

i get my car serviced at a local garage. I used to live next to the owner and he had an RX so was happy working on the lexus.

As long as they have the service guidelines and follow them it should be ok. I think my friend downloaded it and did everything that should be done.

i had a problem with my car very early and showed the service book with service stamps by my friend and they accepted that the car had been serviced correctly etc and sorted my problem.

About half the price of a lexus dealer.

Lexus dealers can tell you the differences on "Lexus" service and "Lexus Essential Care" service. There are a few differences with certain things not included. They have (or did have) service checklists for both.

In 11+ years of Lexus ownership I have never used them for MOT......in fact Lexus Coventry used to have their MOTs done elsewhere although I believe they do their own now.

From the Lexus Website

Prices apply solely to vehicles aged five years or over from date of registration. Essential Care Service differs from standard manufacturer's recommended service. The service record booklet will not be stamped, instead an Essential Care service record card will be provided and stamped for inclusion within your service history. For full details of the servicing content please ask your Lexus Centre or call 0845 278 8888. Available at participating Lexus Authorised Repairers only.

I have mine booked in for a 70K service on Tuesday which I assume will be this Essential Care Service as they quoted me £180.00 for it.

We'll see how it goes.

Seems a strange quote. Essential care for IS250 is priced at £159 minor or £279 major so one would assume that they are quoting £180 for a normal minor service although that seems low. Normally you have to request the essential care service otherwise a normal price service is done. Is anything else being done for the £180 quote?

The lady booking the appointment mentioned 'Value Service'. I am not having anything else done.

She said they would change the engine oil and oil filter, valet the car and do a visual inspection report.

I had noted the difference in pricing and intended to point them to their website and ask to explain the difference If they hand me an Essential Care service card.
