Gs 300 On/off Accelerator Switch

Recommended Posts

I have owned a 2002 GS for 6 months now and love it - wish I had bought Lexus years ago.

There is little to complain about but one little niggle is the over sensative accelerator. It's fine when you want to brush off the pimply youth with the funny hair cut sitting next to you at traffic lights but if you want to give your passengers a smooth ride you have to be feather light with the throttle.

The instant responce is particularly harsh in reverse. When my wife, who has sports car, is driving she doesn't notice that she nearly breaks my neck every time she takes off or perhaps she does it deliberatly.

Is this on/off response a feature of the model or do I have a fault with my car? Is there some form of adjustment?

Hi John,

Welcome :)

I must admit having owned the IS300 (same engine) and now the GS300 ... I do understand the response the throttle has. It has an urge to take off with the slightest.

I noticed that my GS300 had a slack on the accelerator cable on the throttle body, once I adjusted it with no slack ... it is way more controlable.

Have a look if there is any slack there.

Cheers

Vasilis.

The 300 should only have 1 cable (it is drive by wire) cruise control has nocable either.

Unless it was a change between the MK2 and MK2 Facelift throttle body.

Notice on the picture the cable on the back.

Only difference is that the calbe comes from the left side on the UK models instead of the left side as it shows in the picture.
