Janet,

Stevie Ray Vaughn would be great in the Lexus - got to dig some cds of his out! Been listening to Nitin Sawhney a lot - there is a track called Nadia which is Indian-Jazz Rock fusion - very interesting...but I've acquired Jeff Beck's instrumental rendition of it, live from Ronnie Scotts WOW! The 1st link is Nitin Sawhney's original, and the 2nd is Jeff Beck's live rendition.

Pete,

Just been listening to the Moog - good band!

My Dad got me into prog rock and i like it. But my favorite band is kraftwerk which is a bit ironic. Dont like all this commercial electronic crap though. Yeah and hiphop, im just all over the show lol. Oh well.

Agreed - what wrong with the Stylistics? My fav is "You Make Me Fell Brand New"...and as for Elvis - my first vinyl 45 single "InThe Ghetto".

As the LS also has a cassette player I'm able to listen to an Elmore James tape I bought for 99p

As we're owning up and not being embarrassed about our taste, I've just got into the American band Sixpence None the Richer. Not the chart stuff they've put out, but album songs. Highly underrated in this country, just as All about Eve were in the eighties.

I've also treated the Lexus sound system to Blodwyn Pig!

Going back that far hows about The Sensational Alex Harvey Band. I still play their albums regularly in the car.

Let's face it Mike, we're old, but then again, just think what the young ones have missed. I bet there's not many here that have heard Mick Abrahams playing live in a pub in North London, sitting next to a posh girl from The Ridgeway in Enfield (I wonder what she's doing now, married to a doctor I suppose).....

I remember Mick Abrahams version of cat's squirrel on Jethro Tulls This was LP.

My favourite track on an album I played to death.

I heard Creams version later, and thought it very tame by comparison

I was never into Cream or Crapton. I was well educated into the blues by an old school mate, we were in the same class together at Sec Modern for 2 years and his name was Ronnie Wood. He was amazing when it came to the history of Blues & Jazz, it was him that taught me my first chords on a guitar, he always bought a red Stratocaster to school everyday. I thought Hendrix was a breath of fresh air. He must of wet himself when they proclaimed Clapton as God. I think it was Muddy Waters who said "those white folk badly want to play the blues and they do" but at the end of the day its what ever floats your boat. I do feel for the youngsters of today as they arent given that freedom of choice its just a diet of soft porn and lack luster music, we certainly had the best of times and it was bloody exciting.

There have been three artists who REALLY made me sit up and take notice.

Elvis when I was just a nipper in late 50s, then Bob Dylan followed by Hendrix in the 60s.

They all had a sound like nothing that had gone before, or to be more accurate, nothing that I'd heard.

Later I realised Elvis was inspired by black artists that had never really been heard in the UK, and Dylan was heavily influenced by Woody Guthrie.

Hendrix, on the other hand, came from outer space!!

eek,

you have to persevere with gogol bordello! they really are brilliant. also look out for some of the albums les claypool has made with various artists. the guy is the most innovative and skilled bass player of this or any other generation.

I'm gonna replace the cd's in the car in the next couple of days, six weeks of the same six albums is about my limit. I love music and don't want to get fed up listening to them, so a change is in the wind.

fair point Mikey.

I never set out to offend anyone, but sometimes it happens, so please accept my genuine apology for any offence or unease caused.

My condolences are sent to anyone who has lost a friend or relative in this, there is no justice in this world sometimes. if this has offended you it has probably offended others. is there a way that i can withdraw it?

Frankie
