Has Anyone Tried A Flip Key Fob Case Off Ebay?

Recommended Posts

One of the keys I got with my 02 GS is missing the screw and it looks nasty. So I was thinking of trying one of these replacement cases that uses a flip key style.

I've got one (http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Lexus-IS200-LS400-RX300-GS300-CONVERSION-Flip-Remote-Key-Fob-Case-3-Button-/130750378264?pt=UK_Car_Accessories_Safety_Security&hash=item1e71547118) and it's been fine for the past two years. Spring needed tightening as it wasn't very snappy, but other than that, no probs.

Ditto - wind the spring up a bit and it's all good. Not too many national chain key cutters will cut your own blank though (I mean you, Timpsons!), so you'll need to find a friendly local place like I did today to do it for you.

By the way, I've bought a flippy one and standard ones - the flippy one is quite a lump...I've gone back to a standard key.

The guys who cut mine are safe and security specialists, not specifically automotive, so you might get lucky if you try someone similar. I was told that you need to find someone with a laser or cavity cutter. Best of luck!

They are a bit bulky, the flip ones. It'd be nice to use something like the latest Ford flip key, which is nice and compact and a nice shape. But I'm sure it'd be a headache to program the buttons, and find somewhere for the immob chip to reside

Had success with The Halls of Cambridge lock specialists. £18 but its done and works perfect.

I also had to turn the spring tension back to normal, the key was opening on its own.
