Gs450H Petrol And Oil Additives

Recommended Posts

Hi guys, just wanted to ask if anyone used petrol and oil additives with their 450h. If so, could you please share your experiences.

So far I am thinking of using this for oil - http://www.team-zx1.com/

and this for petrol http://www.halfords.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/product_storeId_10001_catalogId_10151_productId_194045_langId_-1_categoryId_255221#tab3

Will this be helpful for my 2006 car with 52k miles on the clock? Or it is not necessary?

Not necessary ! my 450h is on 190,000 never had anything but Lexus servicing and still runs like new with no faults whatsoever. Never used a drop of oil, keep your money for nice things in life, Mr Halford is doing OK!

it is debatable if it can cause damage, either directly or indirectly, but more importantly there doesn't seem to be any scientific proof that it improves engine performance or reduces wear so better to spend your money on something else.

Funny you should mention ZX1, I've carried out my last oil change and added some ZX1 to the oil! Thought I'd try it as the lexus specialist I used last recommended the stuff. Can't say I've noticed any difference, although I'm not sure its a coincidence but my average MPG seems to have risen from around 30mpg (motorway commute) to around 32 MPG. As I say not sure if its a coincidence with the ambient air temps geting slightly warmer from the cold crisp air we've had recently! Certainly hasnt done any harm and is supposed to give good cold starting protection due to slow oil circulation when the oils cold and thick.

Not used any petrol additives, and havent ever put super in it due to price and how often I fill up (twice weekly)!

Just tried a fuel additive to clean injection system in my GS450 with almost 70.000 km. , and not sure if it was someway useful or not, may be a more regular engine when idling, but it could be a sort of placebo effect. For sure, it does not made damages.

Thanks guys for you input! I will be trying ZX-1 next week and will let you know results.

Coneybuilder, so far I have also increase in mpg around 2-3mpg due to temperatures. I will see and report whether ZX-1 actually increases it even further. I wish I could get 35mpg as a normal city commute average :)

As a side question- do you guys notice slight lag in acceleration, around 1 second, when gear shifts from first to second? I also have a slight lag when going from 60mph to 80mph. I know the latter is fine, but to the former I did not pay attention that much, until today when I had to pull of at a roundabout and I had a slight lag to pull off.

Was that while using the manual operation on the auto box? I used it all the time as it improves MPG quite a lot! if you leave it in first and hit 15mph while not accelerating hard you will notice the revs start to pick up and then when you knock it into 2nd its almost an instantaneous shift! But if you were pulling away and you were in batt mode then the engine will need to fire and then pick up to match ur demanded acceleration, hence you would notice a slight delay.

Oh and my commute is 75 miles each way, hence the mpg I get ;)
