Wheels Refurbed And Painted But One Small Problem

Recommended Posts

So picked up the car from the Wheel Specialist in Fareham this morning after having my wheels refurbed and slightly changed in colour. I had them done as either the Lexus dealer or the previous owner had tarted up them after some slight kerbing and thought it was a good opportunity to have them fresh and how I wanted them.

They look great but can you see the slight problem???

A slight clue..this is the offside rear.

Both right guys.....the finish is great on them though. It has a slight sparkle effect to the paint which looks great in the sunshine. I was worried about how shiny they would be but they really set off the paint job.

It does look as if I will be going back on Monday to have them swapped over and I assume they will need to redo the alignment.

Only other problem I have with the car is that it seems to accumulate stone chips from motorway driving. I have a pretty bad one on the bonnet that will need a respray to fully get rid of it. The Wheel Specialist have recommended a local body shop that can do the job to a high standard although I worry how much that will cost.

Let us know the bonnet re spray quote Andy.

Got a good shop near me that did my engine cover in body colour for £60.

Guessing a bonnet should be £350-400 tops??

Can check with him once you get your quote chap.

Cheers.

Peter :)

Got back from The Wheel Specialist and now have my ways on the right side. Next stop getting a quote for the bonnet respray.

The owner of the WS mentioned Armour guarding the front of the car to stop stone chips from happening again. I know our cars are prone to getting chips so was wondering if anyone on here has had it done?

Guy I know uses 'venture shield' on his motorbikes and loves it as a product. Id be worried about it looking a bit naff on a car so wouldn't use it personally.

I don't use my car daily so does not worry me too much. If I did use it every day I would consider it more carefully.

That would be my preference. It is noticeable on the bikes I have seen and cant imagine it being any less noticeable on a car.

I k now some people use 'bonnet bra's' but I hate them personally.

I did look at an IS-F that had the clear coated front fitted from new by Lexus.

Must admit in our colour it didn't look too bad.

I personally would prefer to pay for someone to touch it up or re-spray it as and when the chips get bad enough to be noticeable.

Not a fan of the bonnet bra either! :(

I've got protection on the Elise as the paint is very easy to chip. Works a treat but the car has natural panel breaks so you can't see it unless you know where to look. Isf bonnet is BIG so I think itd look pants. A re spray every now and again is just part of the running costs maybe? I've not bothered as silver doesn't show them too much and I didn't want the blending on the other panels...

re the wheels I've made a mess of mine which were immaculate when I got it. I've never kerbed a car so much in my life. Like the idea of a subtle colour change... And a wrap on the whole car maybe too!

I know what you mean about he wheels, previous was a land cruiser, easy to tell where the wheels were and if I did clip a kerb it didn't matter. Think I've finally figured out where the wheels are now. Plus done 10k in it and got some nice stone chips. With hindsight wrapping it would have been well worth it.
