Hello every one, I wonder if someone can tell me the procedure for checking the oil level in my auto box, it dosn't seem to tell me in my owners manual. My car is a 2001 GS430. Many thanks, James.

There are normally 2 proceedures for checking the transmission oil level and therefore 2 sets of markings on the dipstick HOT and COLD.

You can use either method but the HOT check is said to be more accurate.

For the cold check start the car and then move the shift lever from Park to Low then back again to Park stopping momentarily at each position on the way then repeat again.

Leaving the engine running pull the dipstick, wipe, reinsert, remove again and check against the COLD level marking.

The same applies to the HOT check (recommended method) the only difference is the car needs to have been run for 20-30 miles before using the same proceedure as above but with this method use the HOT level reference on the dipstick to check the level.

Important if you need to add transmission fluid ONLY use Toyoya Type IV transmission fluid.

This is the proceedure given in my LS400 owner's manual so I have based the proceedure on this.
