Ls430 - Taking Steering Wheel Tilt Motor Apart

Recommended Posts

Hi,

Does anyone know how to take the steering wheel tilt motor apart? Mine has stopped working, I took it out and sprayed electrical contact cleaner into it and it started working again for a few minutes, then went back to making a gravelly sound.

Does anyone know how to get the motor apart? I think if I can clean it out and re-lubricate it then it will all be ok!

Thanks

Never been attempted as far as I know, the grinding noise you can hear is the ferrite magnet having broken up so even if you manage to open it you won't be able to find the part needed.

The Toyota Landcruiser uses the same motor but the price is significantly cheaper than the Lexus one.

Does it ??

2003 LS430 part number for power tilt motor is 89231-50050

2003 LS430 part number for power telescopic motor is 89232-50041

2003 Toyota Landcruiser part number for tilt motor is 89231-60021

2003 Toyota Landcruiser part number for telescopic motor is 89232-60021

Because they are different part numbers there will be slight differences with them but I do not know what the differences will be

The LS400 and LS430 use the same steering motor. When the tilt motor stopped working on my Mk4 I bought a new one and replaced it. I opened up the old one to see if it can be fixed but I dont remember seen a broken magnet. To me it looked like it was either something in the way it was designed which prevented the shaft from rotating or an electrical component which has gone. But I didnt get time to look at it in detail....

and indeed it is my understanding ( not done it yet though ....  not had to do it )  that the Mk1, 2 and 3 had a simple 25p washer repair syndrome whereas the Mk4 was a trifle more complex and expensive  then leading to the significant cost scenario with the Ls430 where with the amazing technological breakthroughs leading to ever more ridiculously expensive repairs

oh the blessed onward march of technology eh !

If it lasts for seemingly for ever like most things in My 1995 LS400 daily driver does so be it.
If is new , expensive and breaks and can not be repaired  easily, spare me.
My much newer german tech car wants new electric BOSCH stuff quite often.
