I'm trying to understand why some threads that I have previously read, and which have new posts in them, show a link to "Go to first unread post" at the top whereas others don't.

Anybody else experiencing this?

from what I can tell it only takes you to the top of the first page you haven't seen. If it is a single page thread, or you have already viewed the last page then the link doesn't appear. That is what seems to happen to me, different browsers may behave differently.
