Warning Light

Hi all

I do hope someone can help me from getting ripped of from my local garage.

I own a lexus is 220d se-l.

The Battery light and engine light remain on when car is started but goes of when on the move.

Does anyine know what the problem may be.

To shed light further the wife had the car yesterday and said she smelt an awful burning smell.

I am not mechanically minded so would not know if garage was giving me right info or not.

But i would like your experience to shed any light on this if you can.

AS always thanks to everyone who replies.

Kully

The only reason I think it could be a sensor is that I just experienced the same thing but I also had the traction light on as well as the others.

The lights on mine went off / on intermittently for a week or so and then they came on permanently. It indicated a sensor was on its way out and when the lights came on permanently then I knew it had blown.

Yours being a diesel I don't know if it will be the same but my exhausts sooted up when the sensor went, I have a petrol.

Where is the smell of burning coming from, engine area or around the wheel arches ... are your alloys hot after a run?

from what i can tell the smell is under the bonnet. I guess i will find out in the morning. wifes car failed mot 2 new tyres and brake pads and now this.

maybe i am jumping to conclusions but had my lexus mot'd Monday. garage seemed dodgy. since my usual guy was away so could not take there. Yesterday the lights come on. Coincidence.

An MOT shouldn't involve them breaking anything.

The stuff that's gone is all consumables (e.g. stuff you'd expect to wear out and need replacing at intervals) so while I know some garages do like to bull**** you on tyre tread or brake condition if you haven't done those bits recently then it doesn't necessarily indicate they're messing you about (reminds me, mine is probably due some new discs and pads).

You could get prices on your tyres so you have some idea what they should be charging you in advance.

You don't have to get the same garage as is MOTing your car to deal with those faults either.

Neither of them are MOT fails.

my comment was on the lexus. I had it mot'd at a new garage who seemed dodgy on Monday. And yesterday i start to get this problem with the lexus.

While the mot failed on my wifes car i understand that these failures were down to wear and tear so to speak and i agree the pads are gone since they not been replaced since it was bought new 4 years ago. i also agree the tyres need replacing but the cost of the wifes car and my potential costs are worrying.

i think my previous post was not clear in separating the 2 cars.
