Brake Noise

Recommended Posts

Does anyone else get a noise from the brakes when creeping very slowly in traffic, usually around 1-2 mph when the brakes are slowly released just to edge forwards. I've come accross this before, donkey's years ago in the 70's and it used to be called "Brake Grunt". It;s a low frequency vibration from the pads/discs that sounds a bit like a grunt/groan and the cure was to clean up the pads and put some copped based grease on the backs and edges.

My IS300h I've had for around 18 months and I've always had the same problem. It's very obvious due to the car otherwise being so quiet. Really irritating, but I guess I'm tolerating it.

My dealer has just removed/cleaned/greased all my pads to try and resolve the issue. First impressions are it has improved but I've not driven it enough yet.

The courtesy car I had was certainly better than mine. I suspect the pads glaze with only gently use, as the hybrid system is doing a lot of the braking, which increases the noise.

Going to leave it until service time in a couple of months, by then I should have racked up at least 4000 miles
