so do I get it cleaned, replaced or removed, heard horror stories about garages doing a regen ... high rpm for 40 mins... then it might come back after a few months

removal .... great option but MOT ? garage says it will be unnoticeable

whats the masses opinion

I wouldnt have it removed ,if it fails MOT it will be a big headache.

I would run it at 70mph ish in 4th for half hour or so to try clear it and if it works then try and make sure it gets a motorway run once a week to try keep it clean

From what I've read on this the working life seems to be around five years. I have also read that there are moves to get this included in the mot ( if it 's not there and should be, it will be a fail ) so replacement seems to be the best option. Don't know what a genuine part would cost but there are suppliers on the web that do a replacement for around £400. The other option (and this is only a theory ) is remove the dpf, take the innards out and put it back. this way if it does become part of the mot, it will pass because they will only have to check it's there not that it's working and because it's still there and connected it shouldn't affect the ecu.

On January 29, 2015 My IS220d , returning
from work to home in Liverpool, did the same thing and I had a same fault but I
didn’t went into Limp mode, as I never drove Diesel before so at that time I
even don’t know about Limp mode…I went home and Call Lexus Liverpool as I
already have an appointment for safety check due on next Tuesday 3rd
of February.

I took my car to Lexus Liverpool in the morning;
they said they will charge £60 to run the diagnostics to know the problem. The
verdict I have been informed is that code P2002 DPF Particulate filter low ,
the carbon build up has and it blocked CAT Convertor, it require replacing the
CAT and when they do that they will clean my EGR valve as well.

It is a '07 plate, I bought the car June
2014 when it was 7 years old and had 72k odd on the clock, and has about 78300
at the time of the fault.

Reason for this blockage was due to less motorway
driving or cheap diesel, this is what their verdict.

Anyway the quote is about £1800 to replace
the CAT and clean EGR. It was a Shock to me as I bought this for 5K last June.

I told them to give me the breakdown of the
quote and I have told that CAT itself will cost 1200£ and then seals and 4
hours labor at the cost of £90/hour.

I told them I want to take car outside to
some garage for the second opinion, up till that point I was not sure that my
car in in limp mode or not. I took the car and go to my work place and showed
the quote to my colleagues and they ask me that is your car in Limp mode and I
told them I had this VSC Check and traction light on, then one of them explain
my about LIMP mode and I realize that my one is not in the LIMP mode, coz I
drove it on 40miles.

So everyone who have diesel said to me that
this is very common for diesel as Soot won’t burn during city drive and every
now and then you have to REV your car, and ask me to take the car to motorway
and in second gear or third gear rev it on as much as you can.

I did exactly what they told me, took the
car to Manchester and mostly in third and fourth gear around 70MPH.

It was a night time so I couldn’t see any
black smoke when I was reving it.

The light was still on even after that, but
it was running perfectly to for next 2 days I went to work and on Weekend I
went to Stoke on Trent,

When I start my car to start my journey
back to Liverpool, I noticed that Light is gone and I was oh my God that Rev Thing
works J…

Yes one thing was I use Shell V nitro…

Then Next Monday I got call from Lexus
customer service team about my experience for my last visit, and I told them
each and every single bit what happened and what they did and what I did.

They ask me
that if Liverpool lexus call you
and discuss with you on this, I said yes they can.

Then there Service manager called me that
day and they said what I did was regeneration on the car which burn the soot
and that’s why your car VSC light is off but your CAT is still blocked and this
need to be replaced. I ask him how he know that it’s a CAT as I have seen on
you tube for CAT it P402 as well, and he said your car have P2002 DPF low and
its his experience. I just said I am a doctor, If a patient came to me and said
to me that I have a pain in my chest then it means that I should recommend him
heart surgery. Is this dealers means and in the end he said your car won’t go
more than 2 week or maximum a month and it will be broke due to this problem.

Since them I am driving my Car with BP Ultimate diesel only which was almost 10
to 12p expensive than normal Diesel. One thing I noticed was my mileage of car
went down to 369 from 435miles gradually and Average MPG went down to 30.4 MPG from
34MPG and tank average was 26MPG from 36MPG.

I have been on internet and start looking
what other people did, and read about DPF cleaner ,bought it from Halfords,
2 bottles cost 30£ but couldn’t found any difference in economy.

Then last month I have seen this video on YouTube
about this CATACLEAN. I order 2 bottles on amazon. Cost me 29£. Unfortunately I
put it in my tank when it was full, but one thing I noticed was that my tank average
gone up to 29MPG from 27 MPG. This gave me confidence and I order 4 more, and
this time I add 2 bottles initially when my car was showing 145miles to go on
the remaining miles clock and drove my car on motorway. Then when I fill my
tank this time tank average was 32MPG from 29 MPG and my overall average went
to 30.5MPG from 30.4MPG and then I used my remaining 2 bottles and drove it but
before that I drove my car on motorway due to the kids holidays.

Today I fill my tank in and drove on M6 and
my Tank average was 49 MPG, and my total average went up to 32mpg from 30.5mpg.
On my last tank I drove my car total 432miles and it still saying 57 miles you
can further drive,

Today when I calculate I put 51.35 liters and
drove 432 miles which gave me average 8.3 miles/liter and 38 per UK gallon.

I thought before go for such high bills we
should try out whatever we can.

This might help someone but total cost on 6
or 8 bottle of different additives cost me Max 120£ but so far my car is OK. It’s
now 80556miles on the clock and I had this problem on 78K miles.

My 80K major service is due and one thing
is sure that I will never ever take my car to Liverpool Lexus. They really
shake my trust on them.

I have a friend who is Service Manager at an agricultural engineer. They have problems with a certain brand of foreign tractors - often they won't start even when new and the reason is that that they are now fitted with DPF's.

The manufacturer has issued them with a long large diameter drill and instructions to drill out the internals of the DPF. That works!

I would think that the sort of drill used to drill big holes through masonry/brick walls would work!

Just a thought......

Like I said on a previous post John, one option is to remove the internals as the mot will only check that a dpf is fitted, not that it is working. Why bother to replace?

Id take it to the dealer in all honesty. My Merc dealer only charged £80 for a regen. Hasnt come back since so I doubt Lexus would do it any more expensive. Their prices are quite reasonable for easy jobs like changing tyres (£50 for all 4 including VAT) and regen.

regen failed with correct software and cable plus tank full of dpf cleaner, life span of a dpf is 50-100k apparently, this one was 95k ... guy who took the insides out said it was solid ... no regen would have worked... I get my car serviced at lexus .... thought they done a good job untill I decided to clean things trying to get fault lights out

Serviced in March 2015 ... last week I cleaned the maf sensor and looked at the air filter .... dirty as hell so was the air box .... wtf did I pay £250 for .... ... oil change and thats it ffs ... so from now on I'll use the local garage and save myself £120 ..... not impressed .... takes 10 minutes to remove and clean the filter
