Just joined this so forgive me if this has already been covered but is it easy changing the spark plugs on an is200? Not lifted the bonnet to even attempt yet so could be asking a completely stupid question but... Found a great deal of good information so far so glad i joined.

Hi,

I replaced them a month ago.

You remove the air filter (three bolts) and then see the top of the engine with per cylinder a bobine that is fed by an electrical connector.

Disconnect them take away the 6 bolts of the six bobines and pull them out.

The sparkplugs can be removed and replaced. Only needed after 90000 km though.

It's an easy job where the hardest part is to find the spark plugs. Your user manual specifies the type

Bought them at the dealer for far the lowest price compared to internet prices.

i think i`ll change mine shortly ,reason how do you really know a dealer has changed them,on my lex the last service said it had the air con filter changed,i dont think so it was a mess and stunk,so doesnt give me much confidence in garages i`m afraid, ;)

There is no standard for heat range.

Denso heat range is 20, NGK is 6. For your mods Zee I would have thought you need to use the next number up for a slightly cooler plug.

Denso part number is SK20R11

14 mm thread - iridium tipped, 20 heat range, Resistor, 1.1mm gap.

You could also get the IK20 iridium Power plugs. Made a difference to my car over the standard ones. Only downside is they need replacing every 30,000 miles.

There are people on eBay.com selling them. I got 8 for about £55 including postage with no customs to pay.

IK20 is the full number. However they do have resistors built-in and they are gapped to 1.1mm so they would be IK20R11 is they used their normal part number standard.

Have a look here:

http://www.densoiridium.com/findmypart.php

It won't list the IS200 because it's not available in the US but they use the same plugs as the GS430.

So which one is better, Denso or NGK?
