  1. I think they're getting mixed up with the GS or ES... Certainly my '07 IS250 the cog can be clearly seen for adjusting the xenon dipped beam.

  2. Hi Bodmeister, I think it is worth sharing the Parker's review you mentioned: http://www.parkers.co.uk/cars/reviews/lexus/nx/4x4 Many of the reviews for the NX are lukewarm to say the least but then reviews so often are for Lexus. I have had sleepless nights over my decision to purchase the NX but i am getting it to be more comfortable with it. I think the Parker's review puts all my concerns into context and the concerns are really minor at the end of the day. The NX is going to be more practical for me - the GS was never that practical. The only downside to the NX is that i think my other half will be able to drive it as it's so simple. She could never get to grips with the GS. Only another 15 days till the NX comes...........

  3. Yes this is what I was quoted for both the key and the programming - price include labour, parts and VAT. I spoke with 3 different Lexus dealers who quoted this level of price Your'e right I might not save much - ill give MK a ring in the morning ans see what they say.

  4. Read all sorts of horror stories when one of my 460 bulbs failed (2 hours labour, taking wheels off, etc, etc, etc). Took to Lexus Guildford, £60 + VAT for bulb, fitted free in 10 minutes. Asked if advisable to replace the other bulb and was told "Not at £60 a bulb, wait till it fails'

  5. Thanks all. It's the greyest shade of green I've ever seen, but the original service book and DVLA both agree with Lexus and call it green so who am I to argue.... It successfully brought me into work today, the only issue being a brief period of time when the temperature would adjust up but not down (soon resolved itself) and the instrument display brightness fluctuating slightly until I turned it up to fully bright. I think a detailed mechanical inspection would reveal all sorts of problems, but for now I'm going to enjoy the fact I can buy something so accomplished for so little money. One important bit of work done was to remove those graphics on the front and rear screens - my children happily got stuck in on that job. It's interesting to compare its size with my 2010 Avensis. I haven't parked them side-by-side yet so can't say on length, but the Lexus appears to be no wider across the mirrors (we have a tight entrance into the office car park so I'm conscious of this) and offers very little increase in legroom over the Avensis, yet it still looks much more imposing. Surpised to find the rear seats don't fold down (was used to that on my Camry saloons, quite a handy feature). Not as much headroom as I'd imagine, I like to sit quite high in a car but am finding the sunroof limits things a bit. I suspect I'll be finding toys for some time. I couldn't fathom out how to raise the seatbelt mount on the pillar until my daughter pointed out the switch on the door. The electric window switches are rather familiar however, just the same as in my Camrys and I was surpised to see it only has one-shot operation on the driver's side down movement. Even my 1980 Datsun has one-shot up and down. I'm finding that judging the position of the back end when reversing is not easy, the body tapers in and there's nothing much visible in the mirrors. Happily so far I've over-estimated and had a few feet spare. I think I've got too used to the camera on my Avensis... Edit: Why do some Mk3's have clear front indicators and some orange? I wonder if mine were originally the latter but have been changed as a modification/result of accident damage. I noticed the screw was orange. This unit seems to be in two parts, is the rearmost bit a marker light in some countries?

  6. On short runs around the village and into the local town for shopping, 26 to 28 mpg (if I'm careful on throttle and brake, as I am increasingly trying to be.) On longer runs easily getting 30 to 32, again being watchful of the revs all the time, and only stepping on the gas when I really have to. My last car, a diesel 2-litre, gave me an average of 44 without difficulty. But given the higher quality of motoring I'm now enjoying, my personal target is to be satisfied with averaging 28 to 32 over the year, which would be no worse than two thirds of my previous achievement (also petrol's a bit cheaper than diesel.) 7. It is a good article thanks for the heads up Steve. It is amazing that in our lifetimes we have had the privelige of owning one of these cars and they have satisfied our every need to the extent I have no desire after eighteen years owning a mark 1 and mark 4 to change to something else. That is perfection.

  9. Funny thing, we were in Lidl just outside Confolens a couple of weeks ago and i held up the couple behind me because they had mispriced an electric chain saw and I made the girl go and check. Anyway, when we were unloading into the Car the Couple came out and the Scottish gent came straight across to me an says "I'll swap you my Jaguar XJ8 (I think it was) for your Lexus"! He stood admiring it and talking about his love for them and even asked if he could sit in it. The smile on his face when he said "i've sat in a Lexus" cheered me up noo end. Oops "no end". I only regret that I failed to mention to the couple before they left, that Chabanais quite nearby was having its annual Pumpkin Festival and the Town is twinned with Forfar and usually has a few Scots in Kilts enjoying a Mayoral dinner etc. This year I didn't spot a kilt but several Billy Connolly beards ! Oh and one Blue later Lexus L400 the first I've seen in France - UK Registered

  10. LOL It was me that bought P568 UFC. Timing belt and water pump already replaced (by me) :), the day I bought it I covered 600+ miles bringing it back to Ireland , the car behaved flawlessly everything works, and no blowouts in the exhaust, either that was resolved or didn't exist.. final price was £750 and a years MOT. got it as my XJ8 decided to blow its gear box.. 10 times the car that the Jag is.. Me and missus were on hols and decided to bring a car home with us...

  11. Had a 350SEL for 30mths/28k now - been the most reliable car I have ever had - only issues have been squeeks quickly fixed. I have an SEL for towing so I am opting for the extended warranty but the number of problems with these re air suspension has gone down in recent years. I love the suspension as I set it down on the motorway and the car become much more stable. Only issue with these cars is that the alloys can corrode badly but dealers generally replace even beyond warranty. 350 definitely worth it over the 300 - much quicker/responsive and better mpg but don't expect miracles here - 25-29mpg long haul at 70-80 is good and it will go down the min your are in town. No idea what 2nd hand prices are these days - I got mine for a steal when they were unloading their stock in feb/mar 2009 ready for the 450. Would talk with the dealer about a service plan - generally much cheaper and they will throw in the MOT. Interestingly I found big differences between the London dealers in the retail service costs but their service plans were all roughly the same. From memory mine for a small medium and large (40/50/70) was 1200 including MOTs. rgds Stephen
