hi every body, I seem to have solved the problem regards wind noise from drivers door. Had a good check of all doors and found a small spongy rubber just above the black strip on the inside of front door . this seems to be fastened with litle [pimples] about evey 3inchs ,this was hanging down in the middle ,fixed by double sided tape,back in place. this has cured wind noise, back to peace&quiet and all seems ok thak you all for the tips ,polish

Having recently bought an LS400 I saw that the car was already famous on the forum. Having had the car a week I had only driven it once until this weekend as fiancee has decided that she likes it so much it will now be her daily. On Saturday I thought I'd get to work tidying it up a little bit. The front and rear bumpers both need repair, but I machine polished the other panels to remove some of the lighter swirling. Here are some pictures detailing the process; There are a couple of problems that have emerged over the past week with the car: Interior boot release does not work Driver side electric window does not auto roll up, but does auto roll down Speedo needle only half illuminated The car is going to Japex in Kings Langley this week for a check up and I'll make a plan from there. Driver's window is not designed to auto-up on this generation of LS. Window issues can otherwise be caused by the switch itself - which in fact carries the full motor current. (Switching is not done via relay.) I might be able to help you with the speedo needle issue: PM me your email address for free instructions. Whatever you do, don't go sending it off to anyone who claims the fix to be a "trade secret".

Kestrel DAS6 - I can't remember why I bought that one specifically as it was a few years ago, and there are plenty of others that I'm sure do a similar job but the results are pretty good.

Thanks for the pointers Ruud. Mark - I used a Menzerna polish firstly. They do two finishing polishes, one has more of a cut and I used this one with a Menzerna cutting pad. I then used Poorbooys Black Hole with a Menzerna polishing pad. In hindsight I probably could have used something with more of a cut for the first pass, but I was happt enough with the results.

Once someone has owned an LS 400, I wonder if they ever go back to another make? When the bug bites.............................

Basically there are 240 NiMh (Nickel Metal Hydride) 1.2Volt batteries in the 400h. These are connected in series to produce about 288Volts. The inverter and its associated control computers feed the power to the batteries from the two MGs (Motor Generators) one in the braking system and the other in the wheels and supply power to the drive motors to move you along, converting the voltages appropriately. Obviously due to the high current involved this generates a lot of heat which is why it has a liquid coolant. It seems very suspicious to me that the unit was performing perfectly until a few miles after the coolant was replaced, as has already been suggested any type of anomaly such as an air lock would be my initial prognosis. I worked as a mainframe computer engineer for many years on liquid coolant chilled processors so I feel qualified to chime in. Good luck with this, I would definitely be asking for an explanation with respect to the failure mode if it is the inverter.

More than the £510 top bid on eBay, but less that the similar one advertised on AutoTrader for £1990 I've only driven the car 12 miles since last week - it has been carnapped by my girlfriend who has used it everyday since it arrived. Looking forward to getting it back at the weekend.

Scribe, alloy wheels lose air at a faster rate than the old pressed steel ones. As the alloy deteriorates with age the seal between the tyre beading and wheel rim becomes slightly weaker and you lose air. Steel rims don't do this to the same degree. I found that after my alloys were refurbed they held air pressure much longer.
