  1. Let's face it. A boot big enough for the average henchman's hits (say 2 bodies) 5 seats, 3 of which at the rear for goons. Average goon 100-140Kg = 4-6 bagsx3 = 12-18 bags, plus the lighter "cargo" int he boot fo maybe 2x 60-80kg, so anywhere around the 18-20 bags and you should still be ok! 4. I'm useless at car mechanics as I'm temperamental and impatient plus I have been stung by dodgy garages before and it makes my blood boil!!!!!! So when yesterday when I had a pleasant experience at an independent garage I just had to share it!! -The members on this forum have been really helpful so perhaps I could give something back..... Recently I bought a Lexus is250 SEL auto on a 07 plate from a trader and the next day the dreaded VSC light came on. Posts about exhausts/ huge bills worried me so I bought an OBD reader. Found out it was a front 02 sensor, (trader said he would fit it, but I must pay for the part ). Meanwhile I started noticing a slight sluggishness and fuel consumption at 20mpg...so I ordered the part and found a garage I could trust as I thought there could be more to this. I went to BMERCS in Barnet, North London (found out they do Lexus too). They went out of their way to calm me down and put my mind at ease! As I had the part they only charged me for 30mins labour and checked the car over to see everything was ok. They let the engine run for a bit to see if there was anything else that could trigger the dreaded VCS light after they put the new sensor on, as when one goes sometimes the second one follows on the IS250. The normal practice is any parts changed are given back to you (old ones), which is something I have never seen before. (Just google the reviews they have got!!) I was impressed at how cheap they were and more importantly how honest and professional, I had to write about it!!

  5. Love to hear about good service, we should make a feature of this.

  6. The 1st gen Rx 450 had different ride characteristics to the previous Rx 300/400 & this quote highlights that, it also highlights that air suspension was an option not a standard, something that some people may not know; I'm unsure if he has this option on his Rx 450 Sel but this revue also suggests it may be better suited for ride comfort if it did... so you can see why I chose this quote ... I personally wouldn't have air suspension which is one of the reasons I chose the 400 but simply stating what I or you prefer doesn't really add any value to this topic ... I thnk we all agree Rx's are a great car otherwise we wouldn't be driving them ...You could always write the Telegraph if your upset though ... lol

  7. He heh, Failed irony on my part. imo the 450h reliability thing is wound up out of proportion, particularly given the quite costly issues often talked about on here concerning other Lexi. Certainly the battery can be an issue, which Lexus recognised and have supported customers with. The growing industry in independent support for hybrid batteries is assuring, Still, the smooth ride, outrageous performance that never fails to put a smile on my face, all combined with great serenity, makes for a great 'q' car and enjoyable driving. Go on, you know you want to.....

  8. What incredibly versatile cars these are eh?! Use them on track days or for carrying heavy loads and they take it happily. A shame they never did an estate version, or gave them a fold-down rear seat back (my Camrys had that, a useful feature). Some years ago I had 35m2 of laminate wood flooring to collect. To make a bit more space I stripped the rear seat out of the big Nissan 300C saloon I had at the time and managed to fit it all in there and the boot (and had my pregnant wife on board too!).

  9. I think the number of posts and there being a tutorial somewhere as well, shows how common this fault is. Sorry Chris,-- my solution was the lazy one, fiddling with the float is no guarantee of success and I'm not prepared to buy a new one either because I regularly top up my washer bottle fluid and don't need the light to remind me.

  10. Original mini, 975cc Mini cooper, again original shape, 1275cc - wonderful car that one Ford Puma RX8 230, ordered on line 6 months before they imported any to the UK. Another great car (and petrol and road tax were cheaper when I had it) Elise SC, which I still have ISF and the family Meriva which is changing to a new Jeep Cherokee this weekend as it happens. Dave

  11. I found the rattle! Yesterday I had a hunch it was from the top of the strut. Released the backrest; pulled up the back shelf; removed the cap, and the top nut wasn't fully tightened allowing a thick washer to move. We now have bliss :)

  12. I haven't used any actual equipment or ever had the car dyno tested, I just know how it feels. I have a friend and we measure the times on the same piece of road and it is definitely quicker, even he said he noticed it. I am as surprised as anyone that just changing the back box has made such a difference but it sure has in my case. the car is going in to be turbocharged next week so will have some dyno figures then.... it should give around 240 bhp. be interesting!!!!

  13. Here's a pic of one of my painted discs a year on taken of my MR2, I've not done it on the Lex yet!

  14. Make sure there is no corrosion on the disc surfaces, this happens when your calliper is seized which results in part of the disc never coming into contact with the pad to keep it clean and rust free. This typically results in a grinding noise. To resolve you would need the disc surface to be skimmed or the disc replaced. The following is an example, the inside half of the disc is corroded and will result in a grinding noise when you apply the brakes and the pad comes into contact with that non-smooth surface. The lip on the outer edge isn't a problem.

  15. I've experienced something similar on a Golf. Think it was a stone lodged in the brakes as Rayaans has suggested. Driving forwards was a terrible racket, I reversed and applied the brakes and the stone must have dislodged. Try it.....you never know ?

  17. Yes, you're supposed to feel the potholes. I have the F-Sport version so even mine's stiffer than the regular RX which I prefer as it doesn't fall over on roundabouts and corners like the regular RX. Frankly, the Telegraph doesn't know what its talking about, it keeps saying the RX is a rough ride, yet doesn't say anything on "German" car's ride's which we all know are stiffer than the RX is.

  18. Well, back from Lexus after having the tuned damper installed. I have to agree with Mikael, this fix is amazing. Not only are the vibrations gone, the driveline is so much more silent at all speeds. They didn't manage to fix the bluetooth/phone issue though. New infotainment "brain" is on order. Still, I'm a very happy camper now! -Tore

  20. Fog lights in normal driving conditions are illegal. Why you need to drive around like a mobile light house is beyond me. If you want some lights on turn your sidelights on, that way you wont endanger other road users and the police wont pull you and issue you with a fixed penalty notice. Mike.

  21. It just couldn't be that simple could it! The problem being is there's just so much packed in at the rear it's hard to know where to start. Is it a recent thing or did you buy it like it? I think I would try every single adjustment on the seats to see if different positions eliminate it. The felt type covers in the boot come away fairly easily but I don't know how you get to the rear blind. I assume you've tried it with the blind up and down, and had someone sit in the back to listen? I've got a Vauxhall estate that I use for work, and I very nearly bought a new exhaust due to a rattle from the far rear, turned out to be radiator mountings right at the front! I hope you get it sorted, it would drive me nuts.

  22. Sorry if I was a little blunt, I can never forget the nightmare I had with LPG on a Lexus and so hate to think of anybody else suffering the same, previous car, an Omega V6 auto ran for 200 000 on gas with few problems and so I thought Lexus would be the same but oh no it just would not work ( as Lexus told me after paying £2000 conversion )I then spent another £5000 re building the engine twice all to save a few hundred quid on fuel, not to mention endless breakdowns and downtime. YUK !!! Tony
