  1. Ok, I've finally got round to taking some pictures of my 460 SE-L after 4 weeks of ownership. I can honestly say that after driving it for the last 4 weeks that it is absolutely amazing. My whole driving style has changed since I bought this car. Before, in my IS300, I would mostly be driving with a heavy right foot away from traffic lights etc whereas now I just prefer to waft along in serene silence and luxury. I have all the gadgets that I could ever want in a car and more. My children are spoilt in the back with the tv, climate and the heated/cooled seats. Most people that think about owning one of these always worry about the fuel usage. After having an IS300 for the last 3 years, this 460 SE-L is only 3-4mpg worse which is hardly worth worrying about in my opinion, Happy driving driving days ahead methinks

  3. Exactly what happened to me 2 months ago. Morrisons car park, returned to car and had the same damage as you, but to my rear door. Saw the Manager, he reviewed the CCTV and told me he could see the incident, and, as the car drove from the car park they could capture the reg.No. Supermarkets wont release CCTV footage as it's against the Law (Data Protection) He advised me to report the incident to the Police, they will go to the Supermarket, check the CCTV and decide which way to progress. Waited 2 weeks, phoned police and asked for an update. "These cases can take up to 6 months to resolve, Sir'' Thought I may as well take this one on the chin. Had the repair at Lexus, £1050. Where the marks are on your door there is apparently a strengthening bar which makes the job that much more difficult, obviously. A week later, a letter arrived from the Police stating that they had reviewed the CCTV and had been in touch with the other driver to remind them of their responsibility to other road users and supplied me with their Name and Insurance details but they will not be taking any further action. Received a phone call from their insurance 'Direct Line' saying they accept full responsibility for their driver. Told them I had had the repair done already, no problem Sir, send us the invoice. A phone call from them 2 days later, shall we make the cheque payable to you or the Repairers. Me, please, cheque arrived 2 days later, case closed. Go back to Sainsburys, ask them to review the CCTV. If they can see the incident, then report to the Police. Hard to judge from photo but I would think that needs to be done professionally. I see your in Hampshire, if you're not too far from the A3, PM me and I maybe able to help you out. Best of luck, Graham.

  4. last weekend when visiting my son,i left my car outside his house overnight, and some lowlife has keyed it or whatever they use from front to back, and not content with that, went around and done the other side as well, every time i see the car i feel so upset, none of the cars around it were done,i don't know anyone there,i suppose it looks a more exspensive car than it is,i suppose they thought i was some rich plutocrat to take their frustrations out on.i report it to police, its only minor ? damage, give you a number for insurance.and tell me these people need our help, they certainly would if i could get hold of them.i just feel so fed up and disalusioned with the car at the moment,iv just got a new mot,4 new tyres, and got a mobile guy coming round to do the bumper scuffs,he is going to see what he can do,they have all this new colour matching technology, but more exspense,i'm just gutted.at least iv got it off my chest,

  5. Started October last year! Finally ready to go on the car tomorrow! Life, kids and weather got in the way, slowing priming, painting and lacquering to a crawl.... From this: To this: To these beauts (ok they aren't perfect but a hell of a lot better!): My alloys were so corroded on the rim bead that the tyre fitters wouldn't put new rubber on them. Soooo, tomorrow I'll have another two bare rims to refurb. One of the rims in the pic was the spare, the other was one I got on eBay for £35 delivered...! My words to the wise, don't even bother doing this at home if you don't have free time! But if you have somewhere sheltered to spray, the cost to do 5 wheels at home is the same to have one done professionally. 1 spray can of UPOL etch primer will do 2 wheels (without tyres on) 1 can of silver base coat per wheel (the Lidl Baufix rim paint went on great and was £3 a can, and the colour is great) 1 can of Tetrosyl 1k lacquer per wheel, found after much trial and error with inferior products which meant much stripping and recoating- avoid Halfords and Hycote lacquer like the plague. This stuff needs only 3 mins between coats and touch dry in less than 20mins, fully dried in 24hrs, ready for polish and wax! Once all the wheels are done (and thanks to Goose's recent plasti-dip post) I might have a play with different coats, knowing you can peel it off every year or so, and may act as a skin to keep the corrosion at bay! If any one wants more info on what worked and didn't, let me know! Chris

  6. Thermal shock can cause this too (obviously), such as from driving through a ford. One to beware of.

  7. Very nice, had mine for 4 years, and, even after that length of time I was still finding excuses to drive it. Enjoy

  9. Thats a notorious code for being pretty much anything. Could suggest an exhaust leak or the CAT is shot so worth checking that out first. Unlikely to be oxygen sensors as they have their own code.

  10. Success! Managed to get a used set of rear wheels from Nippon Auto spares of Derby. Cost including courier charges £124.00. Way cheaper than the £700 plus vat new from Lexus. Fitting charge was £187, which I would have had to pay whichever route I went.

  11. Have been watching many youtube clips of people plastidipping everything, so i decided to take a punt on a can from Amazon and had a go at my upper and lower grilles at the weekend. Honestly, it came out better than i thougt it would, and really like the change. Plus if i change my mind I can just peel it off again :) goose ps. I have no issue with a little chrome, just prefer not too much.. which is why i peeled off the centre L badge to leave some contrast. Plus i dont want a "murdered-out" Russian gangsta car!

  15. Thanks, I have looked through this list few days ago... nothing in proximity of 100miles .. or doesn't work on Saturday. I am kind of getting in terms with £620 outlay, all the signs actually telling me that compressor is toasted and even if it possible to "un-stuck" it .. that would be very dangerous to destroy remaining A/C components with debris from stuck Compressor. Same problem as mine - solved with replacement of A/C compressor: http://my.is/forums/f115/c-stopped-working-blinking-clutch-smell-fixed-413949/ Similarly, my one was working fine ... until (3.5 miles away from dealership) it got completely stuck. Now the only decision to make - new or used (preferably re-manufactured). Obviously, used from scrap yard is not good option .. it it could fail again after 3,5 miles.

  18. Just emailed them to see if there's any problems fitting to a lex and also if they have any Europe resellers. I'll definitely go ahead if there's no major issues. Will keep you posted. Thanks for the link.

  19. Only Bank 1 Sensor 1 and Bank 2 Sensor 1 could have an affect on the engine, the downstream sensors just monitor how well the cats are working and produce an error if necessary. If both cats are getting hot then it sounds like the engine is running lean. If it was just one cat then it could be blocked but I cannot see two cats getting blocked at the same time. Also the fact the both cats are excessively hot kind of rules out that an O2 sensor is at fault because each upstream sensor controls just one bank of the engine, you would expect only one cat to get hot. You are therefore looking for something common across both banks, such as fueling, ignition and air control. If this issue is with both petrol and lpg then you can also rule out fueling therefore an air leak, faulty MAF sensor, ignition or poor electrics are likely causes.

  20. New member from Essex area. I've always been into jap cars having owned 10 skylines over the last 10 years, as weekend warriors. And had 2 gs300 and ls400 as everyday cars. Always had a soft spot for the is200 as they look good straight out of the box. i picked up a 2001 is200 SE last week(1 owner for new f/l/s/h) and can't understand why I didn't get 1 sooner. Absolutely love it. The only things I've done to it so far is paint satin black the boot badges and front grill (don't like chrome) new LED courtesy bulbs and my son has totally cleaned the engine bay by hand, taking him 8 hours, and he's replacing all the rusty bolts, think he's gone a bit ocd. Dont plan on doing to much to it apart from lowering it and tinting Windows. So 1st question can anyone recommend someone who can fit lowering springs for me in Essex/Suffolk area.

  22. Thanks for all the helpful replies guys. In the end I decided to run with the advise from Lexus and disconnect the negative terminal on the battery. A word of warning here. When you have disconnect the battery, do not allow the tailgate to close fully. If you do, it will catch/lock. It's a pity that the Lexus tech didn't mention this to me before I followed his advise. Anyway, when I get back, I will have to put the seats down and scramble inside to pull off a small cover and use a screw drive to push a special unlock catch you allow the tailgate to open again. Annoying, but at least there is a solution. I will probably invest in one of those neg terminal switches in future. To be clear, I refrained from simply putting a trickle charger on, because this is my first hybrid, and naturally one is concerned about potential voltage issues with such a huge second battery system in the vehicle. So I checked with my Lexus service department and the answer I got back was to disconnect the negative terminal rather than use a trickle charger, so I did. I am sure many here use TC's on their rx400,450's however, if Lexus is being cautious on this, then I guess I will have to be too. I can just imagine the conversation if an electric fire started whilst a TC was connected for 9 weeks! "We did tell you sir, to disconnect the negative terminal......... As time passes and more feedback from members occurs, I expect the use of TC's on Lexus hybrids will become standard practice as with all non hybrids. best William

  23. I'd imagine the metal fatigued from the inside of the strap out so it would be difficult to spot, otherwise it should have been picked up on the MOT inspection. It isn't a specific checkpoint on the service schedule but normally the mechanic would have a good look around the vehicle to try and find additional work.
