  1. Welcome, I collected my 300h just yesterday. So far done maybe 60 miles - it is a proper thing. My commute is about 12 miles each way and 3/4 of the trip was pretty much ev. Many on the forum have said that your driving technique changes and even after 24 hours i can see myself adopting a more relaxed style. Despite that the blasts between traffic lights are fun with the ev boost! I expect you will thoroughly enjoy your new motor!

  2. Well, although all MOT testers/centres should uphold the highest standards, dodgy Dave's MOT centre might be too willing to let there mates car 'pass' whereas a more stringent MOT tester/centre (e.g. Dealerships) might be stricter - I guess it provides reassurances. Kwik-Fit, Halfords etc. make money by failing MOTs as they charge for fixes to pass, hence why they have 'free' or really low price MOTs to draw the punters in. Best thing to do is take it to a council run MOT centre as they are there to only test your car and not repair it - they generally don't do repairs, so there's no vested interest to fail you in the hope you'll spend. (although they charge the full test fee). http://www.moneysavingexpert.com/travel/cheap-mot

  3. Hi to all, new to the forum and new to Lexus! Due to collect an IS300h this Sunday as a replacement company car. Current car is a Merc C Class coupe 250d - lovely car to drive complete with the equivalent of Lexus's AVS dampers . Early comparisons from the test drive - Lexus is far fresher inside and out, drive train seems like the future when you return to noisy & harsh Merc diesel. The IS is well specified (ex-demo) so protection pack, Premium Nav and ML stereo; really looking forward to it - just waiting on the rear windows having a subtle tint applied and a slight scuff on the wheel sorted. Lexus Bradford have been exemplary.... Photos below (the Merc is an example not my actual car)

  4. Hi all, Just joined as I have just bought by first Lexus - a 53 plate IS200 Sport in Silver. It has been bought as a second car to be the daily driver as I also have a Mazda RX-8 which is as you may know, rather thirsty. The IS will be the daily driver to work and back and can have fun at the weekends in the RX. I bought it from a work colleague who has owned it for the past 10 years so kind of know it's history. A few jobs to do in the coming months: Front bumper needs a respray and a few scratches/car park dings to sort out Poor radio reception (aftermarket headunit so I believe a wire needs splicing to power the antenna) Timing belt due for replacement in the next 8000 miles so that will be sorted in a few months Full service (oil, plugs etc) Alloy Wheel refurb Other than that, it seems pretty sweet - a comfortable drive home tonight!

  5. Hello there Steve, welcome. Everything I have read here suggests you had a narrow escape avoiding that used IS220d. And as ever, ignore the motoring press; they have too many vested interests and photocopied preconceptions. They drive a car for a few hours and if isn't what they're used to, they dismiss it. Which is more about them, than the car. The first time I drove an IS300h I really didn't like it - so removed was it from what I had even drive before - but the second time I loved it. Such a clever car, it knock dirty great spots of the usual tiresome fleet mangers choice of a 2.0 TDi Audi A4... Look forward to your updates.

  7. Hi Steve and welcome to the LOC, we are a friendly bunch and some of us even know how to pull them to bits and put them back together again, with of course the one bolt and washer left over. We always like to see pictures of members cars so don't be shy. We recommend you spend a couple of mins looking over the rules of the LOC, we will be asking questions later. http://www.lexusownersclub.co.uk/terms-conditions/ Regards Mike

  8. I seem to recall reading a post that said tht if the compressor is not working, it is indicated in the display somehow? Sorry I can't be more specific, my memory is not what it was

  9. The correct size you need for 18" on a CT200 is 215/40R18 that's gives a 0.64% difference in rolling ride from the original 215/45R17 (tyres are my profession) I would go for Kumho Ku39 Best value for money tyre you can get (with rim protectors). This is my CT:

  10. Thanks for the welcome guys. Im happy to wait a few months for the right car if need be and will probably have to do so anyways as I intend to purchase outright from an impending buy to let sale! Current drives are a 2016 Honda Jazz and 2003 Skyline 350GT

  11. Update. Shocks were sent back to Bilstein for repairs. When they were returned to me I found they had not been repaired correctly. Their solution was to drill out the top mount. As far as I was concerned that was the final straw with Bilstein. I returned all shocks to the supplier for a full refund. I refitted the front air shocks and bought 2 rear coilovers c/w top mounts etc from my Lexus dealer for about €1100.00. I have put a few thousand miles on the car and it handles fine. So when the front shocks give up (and they will) I will replace them with Lexus coilovers (or maybe just scrap the car at that stage). I hope this is of some help to others with the same problem.

  12. Isopropyl alcohol is fine and won't damage your paint. May as well give it the clay bar treatment while you're at it 😊

  13. Sorry for asking the obvious but I assume you are pressing the Load button and waiting for the display to tell you it's ready to accept a disc?

  14. Rich, I'll get some pics from inside and out for you, £165 is a good price - I paid £150 in the end and that was at cost.

  15. So, collected the car yesterday - good handover experience, car looks fantastic and the window tint is a great finisher to the car. Have fitted the rear lip spoiler and also removed the bumper protector; there was little residue left from the glue - hot soapy water removed the rest and it leaves a cleaner look without it i think. If anyone wants a bumper protector its free to a good home if you pay for the postage. Will get some photos up later to garner opinions!

  17. I'd use higher pressure than recommended as uniroyal have extremely soft sidewalls

  18. Shanra, My compressor is fine, I just had a punctured condenser that I had to replace,(plus receiver/dryer). I read somewhere that there is a built in safety over-ride on the compressor clutch to stop any disintegration taking place, (should it fail) and thereby stop those nasty bits of metal entering the system.

  22. Thought this was pretty interesting. I asked my dealer why they put tyres with rim protectors on when they dont work when parallel parking even if you slightly hit the kerb. His explanation was pretty simple - its not designed to work when the wheel is parallel to the kerb. He said it was to allow people to mount up kerbs with full lock without kerbing the wheel. He was so confident that he told me to stand outside and mounted a 5 inch kerb with an IS F-Sport on full lock - guess what!? No kerbing on both front and rear wheels! He dropped the car off the kerb using full lock and still, nothing! He did the same with another IS which had just been traded in and needed a wheel refurb (had a slight scratch on it). This car had 40k miles on it and the owner had traded it in with winter tyres on which didn't have any rim protection whatsoever. He mounted the same kerb in the same way and the front wheel got kerbed about half way around. I took a very close look and it appears that when you fall off the kerb with full lock, the protruding lip actually stops the wheel coming into contact with the kerb itself and because its at an angle, its strong enough to ensure the wheel doesn't get damaged. When the wheel is parallel, the protruding lip just gets grinded and isn't very strong as it almost gets squashed which is why it leaves rims with chunks missing from them. Just thought it was pretty interesting.
