  1. I'm a bit like Toad of Toad Hall in that I absolutely love cars (wife uses the word 'obsessed') so after about ten weeks of owning my most recent LS400,I thought it was time to move it on. Found a car on Autotrader that I quite liked the look of,so set off in the LS on a 30 mile trip to take a look this morning. I had done around four miles before I realised that I couldn't get rid of her,so we headed back home the long way round. The car I was going to look at was 11 years newer,an economical diesel and looked clean etc. But the LS is on LPG,so probably no gain on the economy side. The LS is extremely comfortable, quiet and raises her skirts nicely if asked and has a 'banging' sound system. I probably wouldn't get half of what she owes me either. If only I lived somewhere I could store cars. I found a lovely Saab 9000 on Autotrader yesterday for mere pennies. I would have loved to buy her,but the LS would have to go to make room. When I win that £17 million tonight,I will buy somewhere where I can keep all these beauties. Don't care how big the house is,that's the wife's department, but it would have a huge storage area for them all with a couple of four poster lifts and a fully kitted out workshop to keep them all in fine fettle. We can but dream.

  2. Good afternoon guys, Today I had had enough of the noise coming from my ls430's rear end every, speed bump, dip in the road, and corners oh god I started to hear it in my sleep. Well after 6 months of looking on the forum's and poking at the car, (changed the rear anti-roll bar bushes, silicone greased everything else up) I finally made up my mind to fix it or kill it. After jacking the car up (hard enough on the ls with the jacking point crushed in at some point) I pulled my wheel off and pulled out my coil-over strut (like the way I said that? made it sound easy didn't I one hour and a hammer) I found the spring had come out of alignment and the rubber ring thingy had torn so allowing the end of the coil to rub against the head of a bolt. Ok so at this point I was wondering how I was going to get it back on as I could not get my link arms off without cutting them. I woke a friend up who went heroically went to the shops in south London and jumped on the train to bring me a set of spring compressors. I then gave the coil a squeeze wiggled it around and refitted it all (again making it sound easy and missing out the bits which sounded like *#/*~#). So the moral of the story is.... a squeek does not always come from the anti- roll bar bushes, I hope no one else has to do this. Have a great days guys.

  3. i have to wait for 3 weeks for my car to go in due to the ct's cannisters being replaced and no courtesy cars being available so the notices are going out to the ct owners.

  4. Though safety aspects are debatable, I'm more concerned with looks and symmetry, when i see other cars (makes) with twin reverse or fog lights, they look more complete and not as though there's a broken bulb. in addition with reverse lights i have mentioned in other threads that twin reverse lights gives some sort of light to absolute darkness when reversing, with current one it is extra care needed when reversing in dark amongst other cars/obstacles....

  5. Part of the reason for only having one light can also be safety, as clueless muppets have a habit of using in light fog/rain which dazzles drivers behind, at least having just one the brake lights are still obvious, otherwise they are hidden by the glare of the fogs.

  6. Hi, just been out measuring the rear number plate on my is200 saloon, will be the same for your sportcross. The sizes are in old money 21 x 6 inches or 533mm x 153mm, hope that helps.

  7. Slightly different view from me. I really like the cooled seats - I had them on my previous IS and it was essential for me on the GS. Lovely on a hot day just to cool you down that bit more...

  8. I was comparing the myth of people stealing Lexus cars by capturing security date with the myth of Roswell, both stories talked about, and kept alive on the Internet with people just regurgitating the same old stories.

  9. Here we are, a year down the line, and I have just completed a tank full to tank full fuel usage check since the service in July. I dont use the car much in the summer hence the time gap. Sure enough, the fuel consumption has risen by about 10% again and so I shall change the oil myself to ensure the car runs on 0/20.I shall monitor the fuel consumption having changed the oil. It will take a week for the oil to arrive but hopefully, I will get this work done towards the end of my holiday.

  10. I would also suspect an oxygen sensor but as suggested get it plugged in for a diagnostic.

  11. The single rear fog-light on the 300h can be an issue in terms of driver-confidence in any part of the world where fog is frequent (e.g. the Po Valley in Italy, Zurich Canton in Switzerland), not to mention the car's reduced visibility in heavy rain at night on badly-lit roads, especially motorways, as the result of spray kicked up by the rear wheels. Two would certainly be better than one, and the fact that some owners may be fortunate (or careless or thoughtless) enough to need to switch the fog-light on only rarely does not seem any kind of justification for one of Lexus's few unsatisfactory design decisions, no doubt dictated by corporate bean-counters at the costing stage. However, as rear fogs go, it must be said that it is quite a powerful one. As regards the single reversing-light, I also feel that two would be preferable, but am less concerned with the safety aspect than my irritation at occasionally being approached by someone telling me that "one of my reversing-lights isn't working".

  12. As a cyclist I think the width of a car in fog is relevant. I wear specs from Specsavers incidentally ;)

  13. Understood. Maybe I'm getting old but kick down in sport is good enough for me most of the time. Maybe I need to drive it less to make it more of an occasion so I'm keener to push it a bit more. Trouble is, I like the grin factor....... Even when driving like an old git

  14. Hi Jon. I get what you are saying re getting spirited on public roads. In my case, the issue only arrives when I am overtaking, so I'm not necessarily lighting up the roads :)

  15. I have to admit, I spend so much time travelling around the country on motorways that auto is my normal mode. Manual gets occasional use only as auto + sport button is good enough usually. I'm not into trying to get that keen on public roads..

  16. Yes. Once you change gear manually by pressing the downshift (-) paddle then the box remains in manual mode. It will only switch back to auto if you come to a stop OR you hold on to the upshift (+) paddle.

  17. Sometimes if the battery has been disconnected this happens....reset all 4 windows as follows, Fully open each window in turn and then one at a time close them by holding the door trigger on each door until fully closed...KEEP the switch held up in that position and do not release for a few more seconds, I believe you'll here a "beep" do all four separately (do not use the front door pairs of switches to do the back windows use their own switch on each door). This resets the door windows to some kind of a default setting. Happened to me a few times before I figured what was happening (maybe with the help of someone on here) my Lexus IS 220D is almost 10 years old, it maybe different for newer models. Vrmm Vrmm

  18. That's it. The key was in my pocket and must have got a squeeze. I couldn't find that feature in the User Manual. Thanks everyone.

  19. You may want to speak to Lexus GB and see what they have to say on this subject. They are the ones that seem to have dictated the current servicing costs and I assume costs have been calculated based on using certain fluids. Using 0w-20 compared to 5w-30 should produce some benefit but 10% seems way over. As you say the fuel computer is a bit all over the place so that could account for 3% and possibly another 3% just in traffic and variations in driving from one day to another. Toyota look to achieve a 10% improvement which each hybrid generation, if 10% was made up just by the oil they wouldn't have had to do anything else between the Gen 2 and Gen 3 Prius :)
