  1. Hi I purchased a black IS 300h F Sport in April. It's covered just 40k miles but I've never been happy with the paint work. Swirls in the sun and lots of minor scratches. Anyway to cut a long story short I went to a local detailing company and thought I'd share the pics with you. They had the car for a day and a half. They clay bared the car first, then set about the enhancement. To finish they used a sealant, and did the wheels also. They only charged me £180 and Im sure you will agree it's an amazing job. The last pic shows you a 50/50 shot on the boot lid as they were carrying out the work.

  3. Ok, at the end of the day I've just come on here to share my result and for anyone out there not too happy with the paint work it's a great fix. So far you've told me to remove my chip guard, said the products are just ok better out there, told me it will be back to how it was in 6 months, anyone would think you can't be happy for me. We bought my wife's brand new its black also and nearly 2 years on looks brill. I'm very strict with my cleaning technic so I'm confident it will stay in great condition now it's in my ownership cheers

  4. Guys with the new discount voucher just got from them front and rear discs/pads all Brembo with the vat came to £332.00. Lexus want that just to supply and fit front pads. Big Rat

  5. As I said just yesterday in a different topic, the main reason for not running the petrol tank dry is that in petrol injection systems the fuel pump is actually inside the fuel tank and is cooled and lubricated by the fuel itself - no fuel means no cooling or lubrication for the pump, possibly leading to other (no doubt expensive) problems. So when you say "but interested to know for sure how far it will go in an emergency" the best answer is to never find out - never let it get to that emergency situation. I would never let my cars get below 1/4 full.

  6. BOOM!,,,,,, It just got a whole lot easier.... just managed to bag a IS250 SE-L mm with black leather 37,000 miles & 7 Lexus Stamps, albeit in my least favourite colour (Silver) but wait for it......it's got a Sunroof (Moonroof according to Lexus) and although it has a few scars on the rear bumper ( fixable at the end of the day) what I could not resist was the fact it got ACC (Unicorn poop I'm lead to believe?) not got it yet but can't wait and will post some pics when able to. so Title should now read "Got there in the end " cheers paul m.

  9. How far can an isf travel when the trip computer reads zero? I did about 10 miles today in heavy traffic with the gauge on empty and watched the fuel gauge drop well past the minimum level! 😮 Due to my cars, um, drinking problem I don't take any chances when it comes to refuelling but interested to know for sure how far it will go in an emergency 😀

  10. This thread started out in a friendly manner and then suddenly went into a nasty downward trend. We pride ourselves that this is a friendly forum and 99.99999% it is. We are all rightly welcome to our ideas and if you dont like what I use or my ideas then yes say so but in a friendly manner. Lets play friendly and if it isnt stopped I will lock the thread.

  13. Agreed much better to keep it out of the reserve, see cars all the time at work running on fumes, I don't understand it personally its like not use save money using the bottom half of the tank over using the top half? Apart from the very slight weight cost I guess. I tend to top up weekly but would be thinking of stopping at next station if I was getting to around 1/4 tank personally

  14. steady there boys ,the car looks great, period, your pleased with it . it looks fine to me ,so lets stay nice and friendly . this is an informative sight and lets not start getting shirty .everyones opinion counts, some are more informed than others share your knowledge to the rest of us mortals .

  15. That is interesting opinion and I quite like your reasoning as well. This actually make me to reconsider my approach as I always run well into reserve. I would say on average I put 20 miles into reserve (don't try on IS-F!) and I was doing it for 40k miles on IS250. I have't had any problem with fuel pump, but have twice ran out of fuel (luckily both times ~100 meters from petrol station). I kind of did it to fully cycle fuel in the tank, but your reasoning makes sense, thought 1/4 tanks is quite a lot, but I guess I am at least going to stop driving on reserve.

  17. Having now conversed with a couple of highly recommended installers I can confirm that both agree engines with direct injection are problematic for LPG conversion. The consensus seems to be that even when running on LPG a small amount of petrol is injected through the DI injectors to help cool them. This means some of the gains from LPG are lost, but it still may be viable. John.

  19. The stand changed from Toyota to Lexus last year and always had an upstairs lounge with a very nice balcony. Shame they got rid of it - I certainly missed the hospitality this year.

  20. Me and she who must be obeyed had a lap each round there quite a few years ago in my old Merc. 300TE. We'd got the shopping from Lidl/Aldi at Adenau in the back still. Not one egg got broken. Probably the slowest lap ever!. Fun though.

  23. I went on the Thursday and Friday. Always a spectacular event and it's good to see Lexus finally showing their cars. For years I wrote to Lexus marketing once or twice a year urging them to take a stand at Goodwood. Doubt my emails ever registered but good to see them there. Now if they would just do an upstairs lounge for Lexus owners, life would be perfect

  24. Hi i live in Stoke on trent. I used a company called auto brite direct. They make all there own products including polishers etc. There products are all used by prefessionals, they have so many to choose from it's crazy. Worth every penny though. They will also teach you how to clean a car properly, it's certainly opened my eyes but everyone comments how well the car looks .

  25. To be fair, Lexus aren't the only manufacturer with unreliable diesel models. The Ford Focus TDCi has a loads of reported issues, whereas the petrol variants are solid and reliable motors.

  31. Quick drive to Lexus Birmingham this morning in my is300H Premier (got 50mpg at a 50 to 70mph) to check out an RX450H F Sport white with rose interior. Initial thoughts on the test drive were mixed due to fuel consumption looking too low to consider the change but it had settled at 36mg by the time we got back to the dealership. Anyway the deal was pretty decent so I bit the bullet and drove it away. Got 45mpg on the drive back to Yorkshire, traffic on the M42 and M1 50/60mph restrictions as far as Barnsley helped but I am sure I would have achieved around 40mpg at a constant 70mph. Love the car, the adaptive cruise control works brilliantly and it is so quiet. Its bloody huge though LOL I thought that I was going to miss the ML sound system but Rayaans was right the 12 speaker Pioneer is pretty good and I think is not far off the ML so very happy with that. I am sure all the motoring journalists who review Lexus hybrids have no clue how to drive them and constantly whine about 0-60 performance and laggy gear change. Blithering idiots IMHO. I want a quiet comfortable car that is reliable and makes you feel good and dont care if it doesnt handle or accelerate like a sports car. This is my 6th Lexus in a row and second RX and I have to say this one is miles ahead of the others Anyyway over to ebay now to list some accessories from the is

  32. Once again, you've all missed @Rusty Crobar's real reason for running the tank low. Just like a formula one car, Rusty's car is fuelled for the optimum.... lap.... I mean, traffic light getaway. @Big Rat uses a different fuelling strategy. His car will always have sufficient fuel to get to the next cake & coffee shop!

  34. Well it's not recommended. I'm not sure how many hits it'd take to get rid of it completely but I can't see it doing any good I've used C5 before and you'll find that just a pressure wash will remove 90% of dirt and shampoo will fully clean it. You won't need/want to use wheel cleaner once you've seen how good it is.

  35. Neither did I. I was just saying that it would have been much easier for them to supply you with plates and with a set of screws. This is one of the things that annoyed me with Lexus Cheltenham. The service isn't as good as the dealers up North. Didn't even get any little trinkets for buying from them. Lexus Chester, Bradford and Stockport have all given me either a bottle of champagne (I don't drink) or a bunch of flowers for my wife etc. It's not about getting something but about the service and I don't think they match the best of Lexus Dealers. It's not a surprise Chester, Bradford and Stockport ate amongst the top in customer service ratings amongst Lexus dealers I believe Stoke is up there as well. Regardless, did you manage to check the history on the portal and find out about the tints?

  37. Well, I have also experienced both and even though the 3rd gen feels more planted, I have no issue with how the 2nd gen handles. As for the other thing, I know you were having a dig at Linas, but I thought it was unnecessarily rude, despite what might have been said before. Having said that, my personal preference is for this thread to be wiped out completely because I don't believe it really represents the true atmosphere of this forum, so I don't think I will be contributing to it any further.

  38. I am not lover of the sort of programes that employs part time bakers and fill the TVs with mind numbingly boring programes but I was pleasantly surprised when by pure chance I came upon his motoring series and its really good. Gone are all those tyre consuming episodes which proved that if you bought this years whatever it may be £50,000 more than last years and theres no room anymore for rear seat passengers even if they have had there legs amputated but the naught to 195 mph is 0.00000000001 of a secand faster than last years model. So ditch that ailing Top Gear and use your loaf BBC give Paul Holywood a chance. What a refreshing change it would make.

  42. Hi thanks for the nice comment, I'm very very pleased, it was done about 4 weeks ago now. You are right about the new washing regime, it was weird at first but now like you say it's the norm and so worth while. I cringe now when I see people using one bucket, sponge, and now pre wash foam. Cheers carl

  43. Nice result, car looks amazing!!! I had my XF detailed at Auto Detox in Tamworth. Think it cost me £200 and although expensive no doubt, the results were amazing. Cleaning the car was so much easier after and water just beaded off anyway. If I keep my NX I'm going to get that done too. I too now use the two bucket method and use a pre-wash foam to lift the dirt and use microfibre towels to dry the car. I always scoffed at people doing this but I can now see it does work and keeps swirls to a minimum, something I have to do with my car which is a dark metallic blue. It felt awkward when I first started doing it but it's now second nature. Awesome result Carl, your car looks amazing.

  45. Hi id prefer to have that on the doors than a load of stone chips. The company I went to make all there own professional products and they have advised with the correct washing techniques the car will remain as it is now. I use the 2 bucket method with grit guards. I think use magifoam pre wash which gets rid of all the dirt on the paint before I even touch the car. I don't use a sponge as these are bad for swirls, I use a professional mitt. Afterwards to dry I use a drying towel not a shammy as again these make swirls of you arnt careful. To finish off I use a liquid gloss sealant. Yes it's a long process but wow it's worth it and will look like this for years.

  46. Just checked all 4 and the tyre shop have got them mixed up when the wheels were refurbished. Gives me an excuse now to pop them on eBay and opt for some aftermarket rims :) Would be intrigued to see what the actual difference it makes... wonder if anyone has noticed the difference?

  50. Toyota / Lexus hybrids make all sorts of noises after they've been switched off. My wife's Auris HSD does a lovely impression of a ZX Spectrum loading, along with clunks bangs and whirrs. The GS seems to have a more limited repertoire, but it still vocalises. Nothing to worry about - "they all do that, sir."
