  1. I have a 38k 400 mark 4 and would not sell it at any price the graveyard plot is already booked for me and the car.

  2. Finally a conclusion to this problem. After months of 'discussion' with the dealer, they accepted the car in to investigate, and after 5seconds, accepted there was a problem and confirmed my original diagnosis (cooling fan on back of CD player). Car was taken in and we were given a loan car for the week while they repaired ours. It turns out they cannot replace the fan, but had to replace the entire multi-media center ... £2-3k worth of work for the sake of a fan worth a coupel of quid... thankfully all under warranty! So, all good in the end, once they accepted the problem, the dealer treated us very well and fixed the issue without quibble... only a shame it took so long to get any serios attention. (BTW, they gave us a NX F-sport .... compared to the RX it was very noisy, uncomfortable and underpowered .... was a joy to get back into the RX!)

  5. Yes if the installation is done right, on the right engine there should be no concern. However, on some poor quality engines they (valves) happen to burn, even running solely on petrol !!! - some new 4.0L grand cherokees love it - so forget an LPG on that, or find out for yourselves. My neighbour just killed one cherokee like that. Another example is when an LPG installation is not fine-tuned and running the engine too lean - for many reasons - carelessness, clogged gas filters, worn gas injectors, or because the customer wanted to skimp on LPG fuel consumption and/or the shop wanted to brag the customer that they will fit an LPG and the MPG will be as good as on petrol... Yes, so to compensate for the lower caloric value, a typical LPG will consume about 10-20% more fuel, but again, a decent LPG has easily an octane value above 100, so if the fuel maps of the engine are tuned well, or if the software of the engine can learn and adjust to this octane dynamically, the results can be astonishing, especially power-wise. Most of the LPG is composed of butane and propane. Butane has higher caloric value, and burns hotter, but not so good in freezing conditions, propane is the one less caloric, but burns better when cold (much lower freezing temp) - that's why the LPG for winter has (or should have) different proportions propane/butane than LPG for summer - on some engines in extreme temperatures you can feel the summer/winter difference. Now about LPG quality. I'm from Poland, do a lot of driving back and forth from the UK, and sadly must say that LPG quality (and the power your car can get from it) is not consistent across the countries, and even filling stations. In relative terms, Polish gas is ranges from poor to average, sadly, BP in Poland IMHO is not impressive at all. Belgium and Netherlands have consistent quality, but not impressive, UK the same. What stands out is Germany, and only specific stations: I can trust any ARAL - I have tried many of them, and all of them have 100+ octane petrol too. Last trip I filled on a German Total, pricey, 72 cents/litre of LPG, but my nearly 25yr old primera 1.6, 16v on carburettor (!) started flying. Engine got so responsive and eager like never. 190 km/h top speed on that LPG, while usually struggled to top 160-170. Note - it's got a lightly advanced timing to account for higher octane petrol or LPG. Just before Dunkirk I stopped on Belgian Texaco to re-fuel, 42 cents/litre, and... so disappointed - acceleration was like driving through wet cement. Just converted an LS430, and testing, so the time will tell, but so far I'm very happy - running last BRC Sequent Plug&Drive conversion kit. I did the conversion in a Lexus approved garage, with 2yrs warranty etc. I was also surprised to hear that now in Poland many dealers (if you request) will outsource an LPG conversion and sell you a brand new LPG powered car, and this will not affect warranty, your rights, etc.

  6. Having run LPG cars for 15+ years I can confirm that there is no need to buy something other than the manufacturer-recommended viscosity. You will notice that you are able to increase the period between changing the oil.

  8. Hi all, Just converted my 430 to use LPG fuel. Runs beautifully, on BRC plug&drive hardware/software. Seamless and automatic switchover from petrol->LPG. Done in Poland in a Lexus approved installer, 2yrs warranty. Can share pics and experience further. Happy to answer any questions.

  9. Hello all, So the car went in yesterday to have new front disks and pads fitted (again) the previous owner had them changed about 8000miles ago but they were warped and the car was pulling to the left. I did say to the dealership to look for binding callipers, they said everything was working well ... (could not see why it was pulling to the left without pressing on brakes) they said it would be tyres and tracking, I installed brand new bridgestone Potenza's S001 on the front and also did a 4-way tracking and still was pulling to the left. Since they replaced the brakes, everything is working well... I opted to have them done by the dealership as the cost was not much only £350 all in. And also I get the 12 month parts warranty plus if it is the calliper causing the whole problem then they will own up to it and put it under the extended warranty. In the meantime the dealership have replaced under the extended warranty the rear differential seal as it was leaking a bit of oil, they had one in stock but they did not like the shape of it before they remove it from the packaging therefore they ordered a new one and changed it this morning. While the car was in the garage I asked them to have a look at something strange that had developed, I assumed it would just be the case of an adjustment?.... the glovebox dropped a few mm ... therefore it now bounces when it is in the closed position. No rattle sound... just annoying to catch with the corner of your eye. The dealership mentioned something about a service bulletin and that there is no adjustment that can take place. Therefore the mechanism has to be replaced. I said OK, have a look maybe with the warranty people and see what happens. Apparently the warranty people had to come today to the garage to inspect the glovebox due to the high cost of the repair before they consider the claim... I then asked what is the cost? I then was told just over £3,000!!!! Anyhow I expect an answer next week hopefully. Just make sure you look after your gloveboxes! lol :D Cheers

  12. Yes, totally agree. The LPG oil looks pristine at around 10k miles. Just got the LS, but also have a 1994 Nissan primera at 330k on the clock, LPG on it for over 15 years, running on fully synth Mobil 1 5w/50.

  13. I was just about to order 6 litres of 5W30 for the LS,when I suddenly wondered if I should be using a different viscosity for an LPG engine. Googled it of course, but it made things worse!. Any thoughts most welcome. Ta.

  14. Eurocarparts are offering 50% off a whole stack of useful kit until Sunday 3rd September. Just enter HOLIDAY50 into the coupon area when you view your shopping cart. I've just grabbed 1x Air Filter and 2x Active charcoal Cabin Filters for £30. Bargain or what?? Also grabbed a full set of brake pads (trying Pagid this time) as they will be required in the next 5000 mls or so. Then guilt got the better of me and I got a full set of Brake pads and an Air Filter for Sal's MX5 too. I don't particularly need them right this minute, but hey, they can sit on a shelf in the garage until spring ... when they will be required. I have no affiliation with ECP ... just sharing the chance to save a bit of dosh.

  16. Yes I know Mark, to be honest never bought any of my Lexus from them but they have looked after them all. I mainly deal with James in service, he is brilliant and the whole team are exceptionally friendly and professional. Aside from the inevitable large bill, I really look forward to taking my cars in to them.

  19. My CLS500 was damaged in Milan, by the hotel concierge service, the guy decided to clip the corner of the wall with my passenger side rear quarter panel, both side doors and mirror. I was not driving my car, the accident took place in private land (hotel car park) and also it happened when abroad which my insurance only covers me as 3rd party fire and theft. Total quoted repair cost by Mercedes dealer just over £3000 ... Mercedes dealer insisted to go through my insurance to do the repair as this makes their life easier with payments. The Hotel on the other hand wants this closed and dealt with the soonest possible as they feel bad with the inconvenience caused so far... Everyone or at least the majority has told me that I HAD to report it to my insurance although it has nothing to do with me, I made the brave step and called my brokers accident line, before I even started giving account details, I was just describing what happened. The agent in short told me, they did not want to know, it is not a claim therefore it has nothing to do with my insurance. However in my case, the hotel is paying all the repair bill and then the hotel is claiming it back from their Italian insurance, however from what I understand the insurance is not an automotive insurance... not sure if it makes any difference, In your case, although the Lexus loaner had it's own insurance, your insurance still covers you to drive 3rd party cars, am I right? so I assume on that understanding they would like to know of the accident as you were the driver of the car at the point of accident. Since it is a no fault claim when it is over and one with your premium in all fairness should not rise. I had a non fault claim with my insurance about 7yrs ago, poor car was a write off, however I did not have any increase on our premium the year after the claim. (whole thing took about 3 months to settle)

  21. Nearly a year into ownership of my RC and still loving every moment of every drive. Great colour combo. My good lady insisted on red for ours. I think the red and the blue give the greatest depth of colour and the gloss is fantastic. I hope you'll enjoy the car as much as I do, I'm certain you will

  23. Trying to find a link I had that explains a Soft ECU reset very well,..... TaaDaaah...Found it. http://www.obdii.com/drivecycleford.html My other car is a MkIII Mondeo and I have been posting on the TalkFord forum for some time now, hopefully helping a lot of people overcome their problems and more importantly saving hard earned cash. This link is for the ECU fitted to the Ford and explains exactly what a 'Drive Cycle' is and why it is required after a soft ECU reset, hope it explains a bit deeper. But put in quite simple terms I normally tell people that the ECU recieves info from numerous sensors to make 'Decisions'. These sensors have a 'normal range of operation' and if they got out of this range then the ECU can compensate and ultimately if it can't then it will go into a default mode of operation or 'Limp Home'. so when an ECU is powered up for the first time ( after battery removal) then it likes to get aquainted with all its input sensors, the 'Drive Cycle' is required to make sure that all the sensors are put to use and recognised by the ECU. paul m.

  28. Depends, and not necessarily, For example the new Prins installations for engines with direct injections of liquid phase gas don't need that, in fact the LPG in liquid phase helps to cool off the valves. My personal feeling is that the old Jap engines, like on my primera P10, 1994 were made much robust and designed with a high margin tolerances for temperatures and such. I've been running this Nissan for over 15yrs on LPG with no valve lube, and compression testing it - no change whatsoever.

  29. I was at the dealers the other day and looked at the LC500. It looks fabulous in red but IMO not so good in white (these were the two on show - no yellow!). Looking at the configurator, I am very disappointed that you cannot have a cream/vanilla leather interior in this car to complement the red exterior. The tan leather just does not look right to me and the black looks a bit drab. Lexus should allow a few more customised options on a vehicle at this price point like their major competitors do. In any event the rather strange "Japanese taste" interior colours has put me off changing my Aston for an LC although I will probably get a test drive just to see...

  30. I've had LPG cars for the last 10 years and only ever put in whatever oil the manufacturer recommends (viscosity-wise, not necessarily brand-wise) and I've had no problems whatsoever. LPG runs cleaner than petrol so on intervals of about 9k miles between changes, the oil usually comes out almost as clean as it went in; not quite, but almost. Almost all Jap engines and a lot of others besides will, or could, suffer from this so you fit a Flashlube kit to prevent it. Some people may say you don't need to but it's much better to err on the side of caution and spend a few quid on the Flashlube, rather than hundreds putting preventable damage right.

  31. Interesting topic. I would like to hear arguments supporting using 5/30. However what I hear from experienced mechanics - some working for the dealers, the x/30, be it 0/30 or 5/30 are very thin / low viscosity oils. They tend to burn off, combust, get consumed, whatever.... much more easily than x/40 or x/50 due to lower resistance to high combustion temperatures. The good (and probably the only one) side of x/30 is that due to low visc. there is less resistance to moving parts of the engine and lower fuel consumption, you may get a bit more power, or you may think you will... and we are more "eco-friendly…". As the eco-histeria gets pushed further, the dealers of course will recommend 0/30 or 5/30. However, because the oil film of x/30 is much thinner, you get more engine wear - and this is what our lovely car dealers want: you scrap your car at around 150-200k miles and go and get a new one. I have lived it myself, used to get 5/40 full-synthetic from asda for my mazda 323f 2.0, Wasn't too bad, but once I tried mobil 1 5w50 (not recommended by the dealer by the way), the car stopped consuming oil, engine and valves got much quieter and I have no soot deposit on the chrome end of the tailpipe anymore! So what is this eco-histeria about... By the way I did not notice an increase in fuel consumption. Now onto the LPG. The combustion temperature of LPG-air mixture is higher than petrol (I'm guessing 20-30%), moreover, if an LPG installation is fitted/tuned by an amateur, or someone who doesn't know your engine inside-out, you'll soon get the valves burnt out, and plus if running too lean, in some extreme cases holes burnt through the piston... (yes, I've seen it too). So I see no reason why anyone would get a thin, low viscosity oil for an LPG engine - quite the opposite if you think from the point of the running conditions of the engine. Get at least 0w40, or even 5/50 fully synth. I'm currently on 0w/40 Mobil 1 (full-synth) on my LS430, and the car is LPG powered and happy. I want to test Mobil 1 5/50, the same as on the mazda at some point, and I don't think it would hurt the LS V8.

  32. Not an expert in these things, but I assume you have started the car OK? Does the alarm still sound with the car in "ready" state and being driven? Does the alarm still sound when the car is unlocked?

  33. I did mine with T-cut about 6 months ago, but only as temp fix, as they are now clouding over, and really need a proper cut and polish before UV sealing. I know this one has been recommended before - Sealant , but not tried it myself (yet).

  34. As I say, the delay really doesn't worry us and it really isn't the dealer's fault (one slight issue was we had already SORNed the previous car so it has had to be re-taxed, but they have handled that); it just makes the brand look a wee bit daft. I will gladly check out pictures of any new RCs in the meantime!

  35. Im not sure. If you unlock the car and do absolutly nothing they self lock again after a short period. But your opening the door. maybe the self locking is normal if you dont switch on the ignition. Other than that, id stop shutting my keys in the car after the first incident...

  36. Well yes, Im going to see the manager with the car still covered in wax. Im not after much but I want it washed again for a start - the wax will still be on the car so doesn't need reapplying which is good otherwise it'd take ages. Its not been wiped at all so I presume they must have forgotten. The interior is absolutely immaculate though and they've done a great job there so I wonder if they did just forget as I haven't had this problem before. I paid nearly £500 according to the service plan for the 40k service - I wouldn't want a car back with wax residue on even after a £40 valet

  39. Please close this. The question is answered: law does not require to disclose the damage to loan car, nor your own car to your insurer... contracts varies between insurance providers, some requires disclosure during the policy, others only during renewals, or only when you join... these disclosures are not legally binding, but might be against (illegal) contract terms arbitrary set-up by insurer... In summary is such thing happens everyone needs to read their agreement and check what they are contractually (not legally) obliged to do. I red mine and it does not require me to disclose this at this moment. If insurance representatives going to ask me during my renewal whenever I had accidents in last 3 years, I would be lying by not mentioning it even though I am not legally obliged to tell. I guess I will decide then and there... P.S. I felt this needed separate thread as it was out of topic (recall), as well I jumped on @royoftherovers for what sounded like trolling, but potentially that was a valid point, depending on what your policy states. Contrary, the claims that I need to inform my insurance and tell them about all my accidents for up to 5 years are not true, or it depends.. So do not follow the suggestions blindly - read your policy! Similarly, with @rich1068 I am not disagreeing with you - I just don't see value in the point you mentioned about local broker. And thanks for contribution from all the rest

  40. Have been doing some mooching around and I do like the RX450h and, there seems to be a few around within my budget. Am I right in thinking that the Advance is the next one down from the Premier? Just wondering if I am better off selling mine privately, I would hope to get more than I would by doing P/X. Mine is immaculate with less than 13K on the clock, fully serviced at the selling dealership plus, it has an extended warranty that runs to December 2018. Any ideas what I might expect to get for it?

  41. I did wonder if it was the parcel shelf, as even the Lexus salesman said that they're known for their rattling. So I took it out for a while, and it's definitely the rear seat. I need to look more closely at the seat attachments to see where I could apply some spray, as you suggest.
