  1. 5 or so weeks in, I am loving the RX. Today, it's in the office car park between and black X5 and a white Q5. It's definitely the best looking car!

  2. Just taken over the IS-F mantle from @DT_Racing so thought I'd say 'Hi All'. Must admit was nervous about private purchase having only bought through dealers before and we did have a slight tax hiccup (what was so wrong with the old car tax system?) but all good now. Done a Brum commute but looking to get out on a proper run as soon as possible as difficult to fully extend down the M6 (29mpg apparently this morning). Love the stealth looks which doesn't seem to attract that much attention, sound is glorious, ride is more pleasant than my previous 530d M-Sport, tyres are somehow cheaper than the BMW!, steering great (don't understand what you changed here Dave but it works). I doubt the infotainment system UI was ever up to date even when first released but I guess you could call it reasonably functional - and it streams direct from my iPhone so not so bad. Will update once I've figured out how to drive it properly.

  5. Something definitely wrong here...my experience is the opposite?? Without making it personal I'll pose these questions not expecting an answer...just food for thought. The person driving was or was not the main driver of the vehicle? Why ask....The main driver of the vehicle has the NCB not named drivers. It could be that simple or it could be something else?...Your experience definitely not my experience...I have no named drivers on my policy. Any insured driver driving your vehicles insured in your name are usually only covered Third Party...hence your premium rose in line with the claim and the similar quotes from other Insurers...always worth reading the policy (small print) The NCB is the main driver protected not others...even if you have comprehensive other drivers are usually only covered Third Party. This is why in a previous posting on this thread I pointed out that the insurance is about the driver. So will I keep paying the few bob extra for NCB ...damn right i will.

  6. If your talking about protected NCB, then you are wasting your money. If you have a claim, then OK your NCB might stay intact BUT, the scummy insurance company will just put up your base premium instead, at your next renewal. Many years ago, my Toyota HiAce van was insured comprehensively for just under £200 per annum with full protected NCB. My wife, one day, drove off the end of our drive and did a sharp left turn on to the road. Just to the left of our drive entrance is a BT telephone pole, wood and creosote. She came back home and parked up, then next day I noticed that the side sliding door was stoved in. I could not understand how it happened, because I knew I hadn't done it. Witness marks on the door and a smudge of creosote and I put two and two together. She had turned a bit sharpish and not being used to driving a van had bashed the door on the post. Claimed on the insurance for a new door, which cost about £780 from memory. Next renewal came and the quote was now just over £1000. Asking the insurance company why the increase was so much, I was told it was because I had made a claim. It wasn't just a case of charging me a bit more but in effect charging me for the cost of my new door. So basically, the protected NCB was worthless. Of course I told them to stuff it and looked elsewhere and being honest, of course told them about my previous claim. The cheapest I could now get TPFT was about £600. That then took a few years to drop back down to a reasonable amount for an old van. I now never take the option of protecting my NCB, because what am I going to save ? In fact I have come to the conclusion, that the only time to claim on my insurance for any vehicle is if it was written off. If I had a bit of a bump and no one else was involved, I would certainly not claim and as for then telling my insurance company, well have a guess ! In addition, I am sure that everybody has heard of some one making a legitimate claim for a written off vehicle, or motorcycle, only to be offered a derisory amount, forgetting that the whole reason of insurance is to put the insured back into the position he was, before the clai., The insurance scumbags also do everything they can to either not pay at all or pay less that they should.

  7. · Looking to invest in an ISF in the near future as a replacement for my supercharged IS200. I've been keeping an eye on ISF adverts for the last 6 months or so. Missed out on a few nice ones as they sold quickly and noticed a few that have sat for a while and wanted to put together a list of background I’ve been able to find out and give people the opportunity to share any information on others that are currently for sale. I'd have a long travel for any of these so wanting to get as much homework done at base as possible. Its painful how few come up for sale! 8. Have you checked the pressures, and set the system to those pressures. If you have it is likely to be a battery is going in one of the sensors. In that case you have three choices. Find out which sensor is not working, and replace it at about £60 plus the cost of having it fitted, and registered in the TPMS ECU. Or you can remove the sensor, and fit a new battery as in my post in the GS section "TPMS system fault". This will cost about £1-50 plus the cost of fitting only (no registration). Or just ignore it. 10. People sometimes forget that you can for a small premium cover your no claims bonus against having to make a claim. It's the old adage... you get what you pay for. I'm not in insurance but abide by a life long habit of reading the small print....understanding fully my responsibilities in the contract and the key question answered truthfully. If it costs it costs....has never cost me a dime extra and I've had claims both fault and no fault. No such thing as a white lie....one thing we know about insurance companies is buyer beware and know what you're getting into. Do insurance companies increase premiums when they get the chance YES because they find the risk has changed therefore it follows the assessment changes. It's the way the business works and that's life. Can you shop around?...YES Are they all the same quote? NO Is the contract the same with all of them ....YES Are your responsibilities spelled out ...YES Are you supposed to be 100% truthful?...some think sometimes!!! Well I wouldn't like to be in an accident with any of them because it isn't the Insurance companies that are the problem...it's the chancers whose behaviour and attitude that might let the insurance company walk away that are the problem. To be honest, pun intended I'm astonished at some of the replies to this thread. Insurance is expensive, get over it or catch the bus.

  11. Welcome Ed! Congrats on the NX. Get some pics up once you get it! I'm on HondaKarma too (as had a Accord till recently) :) Some very helpful and incredibly knowledgeable folk on there too (e.g. Ichiban). Weirdly I'm being tempted to go back to Honda...

  12. It would seem that Denso part number 89615-12090 is the correct one for 2003-2006 cars, according to this anyway:

  14. That's a shame Norman. Love is a funny old thing! I moved into the Lexus world from a Volvo which I absolutely adored and was sad to see go. I bought an IS220d which took me a good 6 months including a long drive around Europe after which I was in love. 6 years and around 80,000 miles later it was time to say a sad farewell to the old girl. Traded her in for a younger and more buxom GS and thought it would take a while to get over the old love. However, she was quickly forgotten the love blossomed quickly with the new gal. Two days after getting her we spend a long week in France and I was well smitten. Hardly think of the IS now and am truly in love with her replacement. As I said, love is a funny old thing!

  15. Hi Norman. I have not used MIJ myself, but have had reports from others that have had good service. I was quoted £295 including VAT to replace the rear exhaust on my GS450H using stainless steel, and my OEM tail pipe trims. This was less than half the prices I was quoted else where, and I feel a very reasonable price. I had contacted them, but had finished doing my own system before I got a reply. I do not regret making my own system in any way saving £100 even on MIJ prices, but would have gone with them if I had received a faster reply due to there Email problems now sorted. John.

  16. Can't comment, I did exactly that many years ago pulling out of a layby, into a neighbours car. My defence was to blame the rugrats in the back for distracting me. It wasn't true, and I fessed up to being careless.

  17. The premium sometimes relates to the car the insurable risk always relates to you as it's you who makes the contract with the insurer...what that contract insures whether it be a Fiat 500 or a Ferrari is just a matter of choice. The whole idea being that you don't have to insure your own car at all...just buy Third Party, and only insure the other persons car. On the other hand if you go Comprehensive then you'll pay for your Ferrari too but as stated that's your choice. The point I make relates to you not having a choice when asked have you been involved in an accident in the last 5 years...doesn't matter if there's a claim or it wasn't your fault. To say No when the answer should be Yes can leave you being denied future insurance and technically uninsured even though you have paid the premium no matter how expensive and no matter for which car type. You are in breach of the contract and the T&Cs therefore it's about you being honest...dodging with a cagey answer to save a £100 or as I pointed out saving nothing is playing games with the truth and all I saying is tread carefully insurers only want two things your money and the truth. The OP was asking for solid advice not hearsay.

  18. I will fill mine up and do a check, but I am only expecting to get about 22mpg average. If it is higher, then great. I am expecting my LS400 to be better on fuel overall. Again it just depends where and how hard you drive. Even with a very light right foot, I doubt you will get much more than high teens just around town.

  19. Hate to put a downer on things but honestly regardless of driving style if you're hoping for an average for 30mpg from the Rx300 then to be straight you are going to be dissapointed. Go in wide eyes open, that's all.

  20. Normski, I have heard others say, as you do, that they cannot bond with their Lexus. It is souless and lacks character. Indeed it took me 12 months to appreciate my GS 450H, but boy, am I glad I waited. One can be married for a long time and only truly appreciate what you had when she has gone. Think long and hard and try to appreciate what you have. What you have is priceless! Regards John

  21. It is a lovely sound, but not sure I would want it to accompany me all day long. What we need is a switch on the exhaust to flick into 'Race a yank tank from the lights' mode.

  23. I’m no psychologist but if this is the first time you’ve experienced this kind of specific ennui with a car you were originally excited about getting, maybe there’s something else going on in your life which is generally dissatisfying and you’re assigning those feelings towards the car. After all, who’s to say whatever you replace the GS with won’t leave you similarly cold in 6 months time? For whatever it’s worth I have a GS a bit like yours, albeit a 450h. It’s a great car, but to my mind it’s not the sort of machine that immediately wows you with any specific attribute. I think it’s the sort of car that requires time to fully appreciate its many qualities. Hope your find a solution to your disillusion soon. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

  24. I bought a private number plate from the DVLA a couple of years ago, for the LS. I paid about £200, I seem to recall. When I bought a Mercedes SL earlier this year I got a Northern Ireland number plate for £27, plus the usual transfer/allocation fee. I must have been lucky, as I subsequently learned that the company I bought it from had a reputation of taking money, but not providing the goods. I was fortunate. I notice that their NI registration numbers are now £20 +£4 VAT. The company is called RV4 Number Plates I would urge caution if you are thinking of buying from them.

  25. Not vain and I know what you mean. There was nothing wrong with the 52 plate on my IS but now one of our own plates is on I think it looks much better.
