  2. and as is sometimes the case, when I find zero empty disabled spaces in which to park ( I have a blue badge ) I do sometimes park in the myriad empty parent child spaces closer to the supermarket entrance. I defy just one parent with child to berate me for parking in their space, I'll bop them one with my walking stick Malc

  3. There were three grades. LS 460, LS 460 SE, and LS 460 SE-L. The SE adds ML audio system, power boot lid, rear audio controls, rear cool box, air-con and powered rear seats, powered rear sunshades, and sunroof. The SE-L has everything the SE has plus better quality leather, parking assist, safety pack, 19" wheels, and a keycard. What is odd is that nearly all the additional features could be added as options, so you can have the situation where a 460 is better spec'd compared to a 460 SE.

  4. I don't have a huge car but it does have very wide doors... I park at the back of the car park and I unashamedly park across two spaces, at the end of the row or between lamp bollards etc.. If it's a pay and display, I buy two tickets...

  5. Optimus Trimmers in Glasgow re-trimmed it for me. Top job, its like factory! Had to order IS350 mounts from the states. Took an age for them to arrive! Then its was off to an Auto Electrician to sort out the wiring. Not going to lie, it was pretty involved. The only thing I've always been disappointed with was the seats and the fact I could never get them low enough. The Recaro CSs are perfect, and couldn't believe my luck when I managed to source a pair in almost the right colour. Front to back they're fine! I've lost my electric seat adjustment, heated seats and PCS, but I'm happy with the trade off for a perfect driving position 👍 Stevie

  6. First chance to compare the two brands after taking the 911 in for a check on an oil leak that was identified at the warranty inspection Dec 2017 before I bought the car. Idea was to wait three months /500 miles after the test in Dec then they would know what it was and would fix it (under warranty). The booking process felt like a bit of an interrogation, insinuating that the warranty may not have been transferable if I hadpurchased from a trader - this was not the case as to was private sale and I registered everything with Porsche correctly. Then there was the matter of the £10 cost to cover insurance on the courtesy car plus 15p per mile fuel charge. - no big deal but I have never paid anything at Lexus. Then I was told there would be a full inspectionof the bodywork of my car and the courtesy car to check for damage etc before the swap - again no big deal but have never felt the need to do is at Lexus but I understand it's probably best thing to do. Staff at dealership were ok but not overly friendly, again perhaps because I'm new at the dealers it wil feel different to Lexus Hul whom I have used for years, what I notice in Lexus dealers is that all staff happy to smile, acknowledge you etc, in Porsche nobody did! Then I was told that they would not review and repair the 911 this time but again they needed to coat the engine and gearbox in some special liquid and then I would have to return again in three months /500 miles - I was annoyed this would involve more inconvenience to me. On the plus side the 67 plate Cayenne v8 4.2 diesel was epic, almost 400bhp and 627lb of torque, amazing performance, handling, noise and economy. End of day one 515 I missed call from the dealer but the voicemail said here till 6pm and I dialled 545 but service manager was not available to take the call. I was working today (day two) in meetings until 1pm with no ability to take calls. At 1pm I had 5 voicemails from the service manager all saying call me urgently etc, also had emails and texts too, I thought my car must have exploded or been stolen! I called the dealer but despite the urgency he was not available, I rang again until I got hold of him and asked what the urgency was and explained that if he had taken or returned my call last night then we could have discussed whatever the issue was. Turns out my 911 is fine other than I need to take it back in 500 miles but they really needed my loan car back ASAP as they had mistakenly given me a car that another dealer needed to show a customer. Bit of an issue as I was up in Newcastle and the car was at the train station in Nottinghamshire - they said they would meet me at the station on car park to swap then later that changed to they would come to my house which they did at 730pm. To top it all, when I got the torch out to look round my car (it was dark)I found four or five new clusters of small scratches on various parts of the bodywork that were not there when I left the car, the service manager said the technicians are not allowed zips on their overalls but the marks look like they are from finger nails or jewellery/tools etc and again I have never felt the need to check round my car at Lexus and I am not OCD about my cars generally but the 911 is black, I clean it every week and it was immaculate three months ago when I bought it and I know every mark on the bodywork and when the service manager checked it over when I took it in, he admitted it was spotless. The service manager took some photos and said they would machine polish the car when it goes in next but the whole experience has left me a little disillusioned to say the least. As I said perhaps I am biased or perhaps it is because I have been spoilt at Lexus but I am really not impressed. Sad as it sounds, despite the brilliant courtesy car, I would take the Ct200 along with the great service every day of the week!

  8. I was talking cobblers with DOT 5 which I think is very bad and should not be used in a system that has DOT 3, 4 or 5.1. Either DOT 4 or 5.1 should I think be used. I have had cars for 40 years and I am sure I was using DOT4 fluid even back then DOT 4 is higher boiling point than 3 and I belive can be mixed with 3 but I am sure someone on here will offer more accurate technical opinions

  9. Sorry to hear all those probs Nick I’d firstly say that over the years the 6 Porsche I’ve had all came from main dealers who were mainly awful, except Porsche Bournemouth. Id never go back to the marque anyway my experience is that I didn’t matter how much you spent or how often you changed dealers I just found them a bunch of disinterested liars. Find yourself a good Porsche Indy plenty about....... or buy another Lexus ....... Big Rat

  10. Hi one of the differences is the Radar Cruise Control with Lane Departure Warning - the box is the gizmo which scans the drivers face and if it notices driver looking away from road you get a warning i.e steering buzzes. Hopefully more knowledgable memebrs will be along soon who know more than me.

  13. +1 to that. This pic gives you an idea of it Give it a good squirt of WD40 or Plus Gas and let it soak in a bit. I was pleasantly surprised to find it came undone quite easily. You can always use an Allen key one side and add some assistance of Mole Grips or Stillson's Wrench on the other (that is assuming you are replacing the pin...if not go easy with Stillson's or put a bit of protection over the jaws, but you can always wet and dry the surface of the pin if needed).

  14. After having a discussion with my friend who works as a mechanic in Listers Toyota, i have decided not to go ahead with the planned £189 donation to Lexus Going by the old saying: want something done properly- do it yourself. Yes i cannot overlook the savings as the Dexron II atf will cost £50 max, but i'm more concerned about controversial information given by the different dealers.. Most likely the problem lies in the fact, that in big dealerships you are never allowed to speak directly to the mechanic.. there is always a middleman who's very good at milking £££ out of you, but often has no clue about the brickworks. Who wouldn't prefer it to be the other way around? Still going in for an airbag recall tomorrow and encourage all fellow SC430 owners to ensure yours have been done too.

  15. Sounds more like the service I used to receive from BMW. Pretty disappointing to hear that Porsche can also treat you like that as well.

  16. The exercise was certainly a success as your idling speed should be at 650rpm on the vvti engine and the variables you experienced at various stages up to that was the results of the engine ecu learning the output from the engine after you had cleaned the throttle.

  17. Sounds like a circus at that Porsche dealership. I do believe it's luck of the draw, I've had some fantastic but also some poor experiences with Lexus dealerships. I think it all depends how they are individually run, sounds like you've got a great one in Lexus Hull.

  18. Some things you just dont do and one of them is occupying a disabled parking whyen you are not entitled to. You just dont. There are no arguments to justify that, has to do with decency, upbringing, caring for each other. in the 40 odd years i am on the road i propably have seen traffic quadruple to an extent that trafficjams and lack of parkingspaces are daily practice. There are just too many cars especially in city centers that were designed before the car was even invented. Fact is that we have to live with that so sometimes if you want to go to for instance a postoffice and there is no parking in front of you will have to park 200 meters further. Complicated? Seems like a theoretical discussion anyhow as very soon large cities will push all vehicles out of their inner centres unless electric. But parking on a disabled place? no, just no.

  19. sorry to hear that, it does sound like a rather disappointing experience. I did look at a diesel cayenne myself before i bought the ISF, but they offered a really bad trade in/cost to change so i ended up at Lexus, happy days...

  20. Great guide and thanks for taking the time to do it (even though I don't own an LS400). If I may just be slightly picky, I suggest that you save the document as a PDF file. A DOCX file requires Microsoft Office 2010 or newer to open it and not everyone has that because it has to be bought, whereas Adobe's Acrobat Reader (designed for PDFs) is free and you can almost guarantee that everyone has it. It is true that the free LibreOffice can be used to open Microsoft Office files but it has been known to cause problems for some.

  21. Q7s, X5s, GLs, RRs)... yes in disabled and family bays? Unfair? sure, but there are no other suitable spaces... It sounds like an excuse to use disabled bays and family and child places because of the size of car they have brought. Why can't these people with huge cars park over the back of the car parks where it is very rare you will find anyone else is parking. Good to find an end bay where you can park so no one can park next to your drivers door, so you can get in and out with no problem. There are always answers to these problems without being antisocial and law-breaking by blocking disabled bays.

  22. Whats wrong with parking over the back of the car park where no one goes? You could find the end of a line of spaces over there and make sure you park it at the end with your drivers door with no one able to park next to it.

  23. There can never be any excuse for taking a disabled without a blue badge. To all the poor souls with cars as big as tanks, try parking right over the back of the car park there is always enough room there to park a fleet of buses. I would love to be able to park my car over there but then I wouldn't be able to get around the supermarket because of the long walk from where the car is parked and the long walk back but to any able-bodied driver it's no problem at all unless they have lazyitis.

  24. If you make sure the auto lights and wipers don't come on you could get away with 10A. All the 12v battery is for is to power up the control systems until the hybrid inverter is able to start generating power and the vehicle becomes 'Ready', at which point the inverter takes over providing 12v to the vehicle and starts charing the 12v battery. There is no starter motor, the hybrid motor is used to turn over the engine to start it - which is all powered by the hybrid battery, not the 12v battery.

  26. The nearest charging points in my area are at a supermarket at Church Stoke "about 10 miles away", and the last time I was there there were two charging bays with large notices in front of them stating they were for electric vehicles only. Both bays were taken up one with a Fiesta the other with a Golf neither of them modified to run on electricity.. There were perhaps 30 or more empty normal parking places in the immediate area. I parked behind both vehicles blocking them in. I connected the Nissan Leaf I was using to one of the charging points and went to do my shopping, and have breakfast in the store. On returning to the car about an hour later there were two annoyed "to say the least" young drivers balling and shouting at me. At that point the store manager arrived having been monitoring the situation on CCTV. The manager pointed out the large signs directly in front of there windscreens, and the empty parking spaces also explaining that without charging my car I could go no further, and had no alternative but to block there exit. He also said they would have a reason for complaint if a row of electric cars were blocking access to the petrol pumps so they could not fill up. Then he went on to say they were lucky not to have received parking penalty notices. In conversation with the manager after moving my car he said he would have done the same thing in the situation. John.

  27. Thank you stormchaser. I like the sound of it being go kart like! I really appreciate all the comments re its firm ride. This is obviously something noticeable to a lot of owners, at least that way i can manage my expectations in that respect better. I haven't had much experience driving lots of different cars and I think in my limited experience that is the ride I am used to since I feel every bump and sinkhole on the roads. Sure, a smoother ride would be great, but I guess we can't have it all as they say! Going to the dealership again this week and having read all the feedback on this post and scanning through some old posts I haven't been put off. I'm looking forward to it! Thanks for all the comments.

  28. I rather suspect that 'self charging' hybrids are more popular than plug-ins. Just look at the catastrophic depreciation of pretty much every plug-in vehicle from every manufacturer, compared to how well many Toyota and Lexus 'self charging' hybrids tend to retain their value. Lexus will forever be a niche player. It has to be, because that's the only way it can survive. Slightly odd people like me buy cars like the GS purely because they aren't the tiresome Germanic default. The moment they try to copy the endless-variation-on-a-theme approach of Merc or BMW or VAG, they'll lose the only market they can ever have. If you're a Lexus 'brand follower' and you're alienated by their refusal to target the mass market, I would respectfully suggest you've chosen the wrong brand to follow.
