  1. Hi All, I thought id say hello (I'm fairly sure i was a member many moons ago) as i'm now a proud owner of a 2006 GS450H and boy what a machine it is, the power in it is insane for a large car and it's pretty good on fuel too. This i s my 2nd Lexus so know a little about the brand and love its gadget as I had a GS300 Sport MK1 with the BIG wheels (miss that) I'm coming from owning a Mercedes E240 Avantgarde/LPG for the last 9 years (mainly for family) and now have decided the time is right to move back to what I Loved (plus the Mrs now got an Smax ) and this car is a different kettle of fish. I have been rummaging through the site for a while and picking up some useful information but now that i have the car it was a good time to join and say hello. some pics om my ride, will see if there are any of my old GS300 Sport. I'm sure I will have many questions about this car and look forward to seeing other members maybe even a little mini meet if anyone is close by. Thanks usuf

  2. Congratulations on your purchase. The performance as you are finding out is quite something. Points to watch out for are leaking shock absorbers for which there is no aftermarket replacement cost circa £250 each (not from the dealers). Leaking exhaust particularly at the "Y" piece near the rear. If the exhaust is leaking hear one of the two rear silencers have a habit of breaking off at the "Y" piece. A purpose made stainless steel exhaust is the way to go in this event. The rest of the car is more or less bullet proof. John.

  4. Ah, it makes sense. Then they should provide wide bays near the door for affluent middle aged men with expensive cars. I agree that the concept of Parent and Child bays is wrong and that it dilutes the importance of the disabled ones. Just make all the normal spaces just a little bit wider and we would all be happy. I reckon that Waitrose do have wider spaces than Tesco. They clearly know their target customer base.

  6. My IS250 se-l had a ticking noise, went in for investigation and turned out to be the injectors pumping fuel, my F has always had the same tick from start up, was given a full bill of clean health when last at Lexus Woodford, I assumed it was the fuel injectors, has been the same for the three years of my ownership, can’t be the manifold as Lexus would have tried to get me to replace it for a cost.......of course 🙄.......must be a noticeable difference with engine note, my old accord had a cracked manifold branch and that was MASSIVELY noticeable 😂🤣👍

  8. 2007 SE L does have the auto parking. Had mine for 4 years and used the auto parking once, just a gimmick, takes ages to park. Mine came with a card-key, nice touch. Don't know whether a new card can be programmed but, if it could, I would think you're talking in the £hundreds. VED now £535. MPG wise, I probably averaged 18 to 20mpg. Great 4 years of ownership though.

  9. My works carpark has employed a outside parking co to monitor employees park in allocated spaces ( management and grunts have different spaces) and to make sure its not used by public. A condition of the use is to display a permit. Many people stick it to to window, many put it in place everyday. Me only working four days a week didnt want it on show on my days off. After 9 mnths i finally forgot to put it in place and got a ticket. My fault but hey ho. Approached my management and they had no interest in helping to cancel the charge for a 22yr employee. Thinking £70 is not really a justifieable amount to pay for forgetting to display a permit for one day i decided to research and fight it through the appeals process. I joined the pepipoo motoring forum and taking advice fought my case. With research i proved the ticket was not issued legally and they had not issued a correct notice to keeper. In fact with more knowledge i proved they had failed several statutes in the protection of freedoms act 2012 ( pofa ) and several of their governing bodies code of practice and as such could not hold me liable. I never mentioned the failure to display a valid permit. I fought them on their own terms and conditions which they could not get right as required by law. My appeal was upheld and the charge cancelled. So if you get a ticket on council or private land do not rush out and pay the reduced amount thinking if you dont it will cost more. The idea is to pay nothing. It takes some time and effort ,yes. Parking co's rely on the fact that people panic and pay, when with a little effort you can avoid paying using the law and their own procedures to your advantage.

  10. I have now used my IS300 h Sport for some rural night driving and can compare the lights with those of my old Jag. which had a four 5.75 inch 60 watt main/ 55 watt dipped quartz halogen setup. The bixenons give a much more uniform and whiter distribution of light in dipped mode but switching them to main beam appeared to add less additional light than in the case of the quartz halogen system. Overall I prefer the bixenon system as dipped beam performance is more important to me from a safety viewpoint.

  11. "They probably would find strange why disabled people need bays as well" A bad joke yes? "Anyway .... I believe by now we all contributed enough to derail this tread in to something completely different from what original OP posted. Maybe we should wrap-up or created another thread if anyone still wants to discuss this topic?" The natural direction of any thread.

  12. Twice a year - Easter time (after the winter) and around Oct/Nov (before the winter. Always used the red rubber grease and absolutely no issue over 6 years of using it. The seizing will come about from ill fitting rubber boots which have been attacked by the use of the wrong grease and caused them to stretch and mishapen. The red rubber grease lubricates the pins but does not attack the rubber... job done. When I doi mine its usually when I service the car which is twice a year (oil change) but while I am doing the pins I will give the moving parts a good squirt of WD40, hasn't done anything any harm but not sure if it helps anything either but its no hassle doing it.

  17. It did a cracking job. Took all the advice I found on the WWW and did it on a cloudy day, and took it very slowly and gently. It certainly beats hand polishing. Chemical Guys on YouTube are the best for advice.

  18. Agree 100%. My comment was meant to be sarcastic. The provision of parent and child bays is as much to the benefit of other motorists in that there is a slightly reduced chance of door dings as parent wrestle with their little charges. IMHO these bays should be resigned the the far perimeters of the car park. The placement of blue badge bays close to the entrance/exits is completely logical

  19. from nearly 7 years and 80k miles with my Mk3 it averages between 420 and 520 miles per tank just depends on your driving style Higher miles per gallon usually arises when the car is motoring effortlessly along the motorway at about 70/80 mph, fully laden ........... and on a sunny day Malc

  20. Agreed, the old Park assist takes too long to set up and you have to crawl along otherwise it will disengage. I wouldn't be too worried about the lack of keycard, other than it is essentially a missing key - so you would want to get the memory erased and only the keys you have in your possession are programmed back into the system.

  21. I have a 400 with key fob, so I am assuming a ''keycard'' is no key just a fob called keycard, reason I posted is that I was given the price of a transponder for the LS 400 '99 keyfob & that is £152 + £80 programming = VAT + £279, so I guess dont think less than that.

  22. and Much to the satisfaction of its customers, the supermarket where I habitually shop, like others in the same chain, has made its parking spaces wider, not by increasing the individual areas but by adding a 45cm-wide "no-man's" strip between each. Problems related to long and thick coupé doors and the fear of potentially clumsy neighbours are therefore significantly lessened. The extra distance not unexpectedly encourages people to steer their trolleys between cars despite the presence of dedicated trolley-lanes at 8-car intervals, but the increased risk of scratches can be avoided if you park along the car-park's walled perimeter. Clearly the supermarket considers reduced total parking capacity less important than customer-friendliness, which would never be the case with commercially-run equivalents. The intent also extends to polite attendants who double as security guards, which is another comparative rarity in respect of public car-parks where surliness usually prevails.

  24. You're probably right but I to balance that against the fact that my FiL was on his last legs and my wife and I were caring for him for the final 3/4 months of his life and the stress associated with this. My real issue is that the franchised dealer advised against me supplying them with a reconditioned transmission as they couldn't give any guarantee - hence the 'new' box from Lexus that clearly wasn't such a unit - outrageous imho
