  1. I'm sure you could always get the health check, you just won't get a warranty if the vehicle is too old. I'd recommend that you make sure the engine warning light is working - it should come on with the ignition and go out once the car is 'Ready' - there are some people out there that will disable the light, or cover it up, to hide the fact that there is an issue.

  2. Mine does this but after a lot and I mean a lot of research and getting it checked over (I'm very meticulous about fault finding I give myself headaches with it ☺)it seems it's a common noise hopefully it's the same for you too it is a very light ticking on mine mind, there is quite a few videos on YouTube showing the same noise.

  3. Not sure but has my thread gone off topic? Interesting comments on other subjects all the same my thoughts. 1. If you get a ticket , dont panic , consider options to fight. With a bit of effort your cash stays in your wallet. 2. If you care about door dents.... dont park near people who dont. 3. If you have a blue badge, use it... if you dont , think yourself lucky you dont have one.

  6. I was wondering how often other members did this job, the reason I ask is my car was in for some work a Lexus and as part of their service they always do a quick check around the car, they flagged up that one of the rear calipers had seized, I usually do this job once a year but had overlooked it by a couple of months, just managed to free it though, so will be doing it more frequently from now on.

  7. Every time I come on the site, I get the message 'Our site uses cookies to improve your experience...' etc.. This isn't true. It doesn't 'improve my experience of the site'. It merely allows my useage to be harvested, plus it sends me adverts related to (what some algorrythm THINKS) I'm interested in. . Test it. Look up some stupid thing on eBay, - say Dustbins - and you'll find references to Dustbins appearing at the side of sites you visit. Doesn't work on me - I tend to vow never to buy stuff advertised this way. But it IS annoying, (and uses up FAR too much of your computer)

  8. Hi, I'm new to the forum, have a new love in my life. 2004 IS200 only 72k full Lexus history. Had it a week and fallen in love, just got around to the detailing. What do you think ? Now should I keep the wheels as is, do need a refurb or change the colour ? Possibly 'Shadow Chrome ?

  9. Possibly the paper cone is torn.. If you can take the top cover off, gently with a screw driver or similar, on the subwoofer on the rear seat shelf under the rear glass shield. Then gently , very gently, run your finger around the cone...if you find a tear. Stop. get some colourless silicon , small tube , and apply it generously to seal the tear. Better still , seal it all around the paper cone close to the tear. Be careful not to let silicone get on the shelf or leather...then wait for it to dry. Next day try the music...if it works put the cover back on and enjoy. If not then...it could be an expensive job. There is a thread on this topic...but I think it’s on the US club. good luck...It worked for me a few yrs ago...

  10. Hit the front brakes today. Relatively easy to do, but i took my time cleaning and greasing pad slots on the caliper mounting brackets. Not a big fan of this grooved/drilled shenanigans, but must admit these discs look little bit better than the standard ones.

  11. At the last service last June when my 450h was eleven years old (registered May 2006) I was given a hybrid health check certificate from Lexus Carlisle. Don't know if this was done in error or whether it is because the car has a full Lexus service history. I would say ask. They can only say yes or no.

  12. Thanks David, I'm not sure import duties will apply as Malta is within the EU. I like facts, always interesting to hear such stories. My mate had an older brother who had some great albums we used to listen to, In The Court was one of them and like you some of his albums set me on a musical journey I'm still on today! I recently finished reading Greg Lake's autobiography so some of your info rang a few bells. He came across as a decent sort of bloke, very sad that both he and Keith Emerson are no longer with us. I don't think we will ever see the likes of bands such as ELP again sadly. A quick, funny and true, Fripp story. A friend of a friend (totally oblivious in all things prog) went to a dinner party hosted by Toyah, he was chatting to this bloke and asked "so what do you do for a living?".........................Robert Fripp gave him one filthy look apparently!

  15. I know my limits Keith. I would royally ____ this up. My problem is that I like older cars but I'm not very handy. But it's an interesting thread and the advice is much appreciated. I'll pop in to my local garage and have a word. I'd rather not leave it for another 6 months when my next dealer service is due and get an unnecessarily high bill.

  16. I'm not twisted ( I resent that hugely ) and I did read and totally understood what was said ............. parking on both single and double yellow lines is allowed by law subject to non-obstruction rules and other stuff from time-to-time ......... disabled persons often just NEED to be accommodated rather better than non disabled motorists ...... that's why they have a blue badge ......... it's not for fun you know. 17. HI John Thanks for your response . No , all the same cars are parked near me but some of them have been affected, Difference is that they can simply open with key and drive off ! Not me though === I cannot use the car until it returns to normal and I cannot park in other parking places.

  20. Hi Mike, Welcome to the club - the source of much information about Lexus (and life). The battery indicator in the speedo is the state of charge at the moment. As you drive this will go up and down. The is no way to check the health of the battery except by getting a health check at Lexus. I think this costs £59 and includes a year's warranty on the battery. If you buy from a dealer this health check should be part of the deal. If not ask for it to be done. If you are not buying from a dealer then ask the seller to get a health check done before buying. Look at the service record and the MOT history. This should tell you a lot about the car. 114k miles is not a lot for this car and many of us in the LOC have 450hs with more. I think the highest was 2 or 300k. The battery is unlikely to be an issue. Check the shock absorbers and the exhaust. And don't let it run out of petrol. If any concerns ask LOC! We love our 450hs. A awful lot of quality, reliability, comfort and performance for the money. John

  21. No wheels need to be off the vehicle. We are not all mechanical minded, so do not be afraid to ask better safe than sorry. Plenty on utube and the like. It seems daunting but is not really. Like above have said if your not confident you may know some body who is. Like most of us on here, things seems scary or complicated and really are not. At the end of the day we can not all be good at everything. Learning and doing these kind of jobs is satisfying and also saving money.

  22. Thanks guys, obviously there are bigger problems in the world to worry about but I am just a bit sad to find what I was expecting really, from previous forums I have read info on it does seem like there are very few dealers that are really rated and non are near me, as its under warranty I have to use the OPC. I was never really planning to keep the car long term and I have even less desire to now although that Cayenne was seriously tempting. The other thing I am reflecting on is that outside of usual service, my Lexus cars have not required any additional visits to the garage, at the next check up the 911 will have been in three times in 5 months although that's partly down to the ineptness of the dealer. I have been lucky with Lexus Hull and it's obviously a better feeling when you have established a relationship. To put a film/tv analogy on the experience, if walking into Lexus Hull is like stepping into Cheers bar, the Porsche dealership was more like the scene in American Werewolf in London when the guys walk into the pub in the middle of Dartmoor! I'm sure once they sort the car out and the sun is shining I will probably feel a bit different.

  23. You will get the paint code from the plate inside the engine bay and/or door shut. I found buying direct from Ebay (mine is bronze and I had to spray part of the bumper) was fine. In your case the colour match will be good as metallic paints like mine tend to fade. Buy one with a lacquer included - circa £15-£20 should get you the paint and lacquer needed. Do use lacquer, I've painted bits of cars before and thought the finish was acceptable using just the rattle can, but is makes a massive difference when applied. Be patient, 2-3 fine coats, don't over-spray and wait for 15+ degree temperature before attempting and allow to dry and lightly sand between coats until the lacquer finishes. Here's the Ebay link I used for mine: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Lexus-Quality-400Ml-Aerosol-Can-4P7-Beige-Met-From-98-08-1K-Lacquer/330998881370

  24. I have to say that I haven't noticed any thing significant noise wise on startup. other than the exhaust of course which always makes me smile... (and the mechanics who were around when I took the car in for some new tyres recently)..

  25. start arguing the case and I'll come up and bop you one ............... disabilities are dreadful and until you actually suffer appropriately you will have absolutely no idea what's involved AND getting close to shops and into shops can be the most excruciating painful process ..... never criticise disabled people, you most certainly will never win I can assure you. 27. The rears are the biggest problem and they really do need cleaning and regreasing every 6 months or they will seize up. The fronts are a different design and not as prone to seizing as the rears. These can be serviced every 12 months. Apparently it's an easy job for you guys but I get my Toyota dealership to service mine at every 6 month service. Even your local independent service centre will do all 4 for as little as £40. It's very important to keep on top of this as new calipers can be quite expensive as I discovered on a previous Lexus.

  28. There aren't too many cars that are 20+ years old that can still look as though it has just come out of the showroom after a good wash & polish. My dark green LS looks a million dollars after a wash and brush up.

  29. By coincidence, bumped into the colleague in London today who lent me her 911 last summer for two weeks. She purchased and uses (or used to use) the Leicester OPC but after a ton of issues with the car and the dealer she’s given up on them. My nearest dealer is Nottingham but I have only heard bad things about them too. Nearest Indy is Zentrum who I have heard good things about but while under warranty I have to use OPC and I don’t really want to run the car outside of the warranty.

  30. Twice a year - Easter time (after the winter) and around Oct/Nov (before the winter. Always used the red rubber grease and absolutely no issue over 6 years of using it. The seizing will come about from ill fitting rubber boots which have been attacked by the use of the wrong grease and caused them to stretch and mishapen. The red rubber grease lubricates the pins but does not attack the rubber... job done. When I doi mine its usually when I service the car which is twice a year (oil change) but while I am doing the pins I will give the moving parts a good squirt of WD40, hasn't done anything any harm but not sure if it helps anything either but its no hassle doing it.

  32. Washed and polished, comes up nice. Went over the windows with rain-x too, I'll see if it makes a difference. I've found it more effective the more sloped the windscreen is so it might not have much impact. Went over the bonnet and filled in any stone chips with a turtle wax chip stick.

  33. That battery voltage is very low suggesting at leased one cell is short circuit. A fully charged good battery should read 13.8 volts with no load. It is possible that whatever your using to measure the voltage is not accurate, or the point at which your measuring has some load on it giving a voltage drop. The voltage should be measured at the battery terminals with everything turned off. There will still be a small load on the battery from the security systems, but I would expect for a good battery for the voltage to be at a minimum of 12.6 volts, and preferably over 13 volts. Measuring the voltage anywhere other than at the battery terminals will give fauls readings, also if the engine is running the voltages will be higher. John.

  40. Exactly - I’m sure the RCF styling is not to everyone’s taste and that’s fine as it doesn’t matter to me in the slightest . I like the M4’s styling, but they are so common where I live that you almost don’t notice them which is a shame. I certainly won’t see another RCF 👍🏻

  41. I have been using Nankang winter tyres since they transformed my LS430 into an almost 4wd car in the snow. They have been brilliant on the RX400h and they are cheap (about £70 a corner). I was swapping tyres every april and November but these days I leave them on all year and they still seem to have enough tread to get through a second winter. Am I right in thinking my 400H has no 'snow' button or anything like it. I found on here some weird button and key sequence that might allow me to turn off the traction control which I haven't tried yet - but which might have helped me get out of a muddy field with a caravan? Mike

  42. I have full winter tyres on my rx350, Nokian SUV WR3, Dont think I have see the traction light yet after three winters in the alps, Goes up the driveway in 6" plus of snow no problem and eats slush and deep puddles. Trouble is that they wear badly once the temp is above 12-15 deg. Remember that you need a minimum of 4-5mm tread for snow - In some countries it is "illegal" to have less than 4mm. Never sure about all season tyres always seem like the worst of both worlds. Got them from openeo who I can heartily recommend, unlike most their warehouse is in the UK Always liked the german winter rules that if you have to be rescued or cause a jam in winter conditions while wearing summer tyres you get landed with a big fine.

  43. Yes, perfectly fine on everything except precast concrete motorway surfaces, but that stuff is ridiculously noisy for any tyres. I'm happy with the Cross Climates.
    1 point
  44. Ian, have you found the Michelin Cross Climates to be quiet in normal conditions? That is a major factor for me. They are top of the list for my RX350 and I hope they come down in price before I need to decide.

  45. Had my Is 250 for about 18 months but was never a fan of the wood interior. Decided a few weeks back to get some test sections of wrap to see what looked ok to me. Went for a 8dm black carbon fibre wrap from an on line company. Did the work today and I'm very happy with the outcome. Had to take all the switches off the back bit it was quite simple just best not to rush it. Know it's not to everyone's taste but I much prefer it to the wood. Sent from my SM-G935F using Tapatalk

  48. Its very pad dependent. Which kit did you specifically go for? Was it a meguiars kit or something else? In essence, you want to start off with Meguiars 205 and the softest pad you have. Move to the firmer pad if its not working. Then, if that doesn't work, use the 105 on the softest pad and try again. Then, once you've done the polishing, refine back down using Meguiars 205 and the softest pad.
