  4. Nah those carbons are becoming bit common 😆😉 How funny - what were the odds of that I wonder!! Only ever seen an RCF on the road on my way home from Goodwood where I’m sure the odds are much higher.

  11. There are no advantages to a large diesel that I can see, they are much less refined and still sound like a tractor. The government are going to make it harder and harder to run diesels anyway. Petrol hybrids and electric are the way forward. Very impressive figures BTW, my mk3 GS450H will never quite achieve that but I can still get 40+mpg on a run which is still excellent, especially for the performance the car has

  12. Bolton to Milton Keynes. Sticking to the speed limit. Over 50mpg, over 600 mile range So what is the advantage of a large diesel?

  13. I have just rebuilt the power steering leak hoping that it would cure the groan. When at stationary you turn the wheel slightly the RPM would rev up and down. There is no power steering leak now. I have topped up the fluid. Any suggestions please.

  20. Nuggets sent me wrong brake pads for my daughters Fiat 500 and when I went to local counter to exchange them for correct ones " you got them 'on-line' so we can't exchange them without a returns Number, you have to phone customer service and get one, but you will be on hold for a very long time" He wasn't 'king kidding, 35 mins on hold in car park to spend a 30 seconds conversation getting a returns number, brilliant! So god help you if you get the wrong part sent ( either your fault or theirs) cause your gonna be listening to 5hite music for 1/2 an Hour! paul m.

  30. Meant to put these pics up a while back ... completely forgot. Must be an age thing! I've found these pouches work really well. You do need to ensure you place the fob within the inner special fabric pocket. If you don't it does not work ... that may be why some have said they found the pouch ineffective. Picture 1. Key in full view to the car as usual Picture 2. Key placed within inner compartment Picture 3. First you see me ... now you don't!

  38. Yes He @Linas.P keeps going on about how crappy of an engine the 300h is when official performance figures from Lexus confirms there is nothing between his IS250 when compared to the 300h in them in terms of 0-60 and rolling acceleration and power to weight ratio.. 250 better it by 15mph at top end but thats because the 300h's Top end speed has been artificially capped. he even claimed the IS200T is crappy aswell. we have have this discussion numerous times on different threads so this is not new... an IS-F will solve his problem but he claims is overkill but IS300H/200T models with reasonable performance are crappy.. He sounds very much like my missus complains about everything but offer her a solution and she doesn't take it and keeps on complaining... @Linas.P, Get yourself an IS-F and put this IS300H hatred to bed once and for all..

  39. I fitted my towbar myself and it was a pain to get the wiring correct. Lexus do sell a kit for the electronics but it doesn't just plug in there is quite a lot of splices to do. Lexus don't have their own towbar but buy in bars from Westfalia and re-badge them, these come with a wiring kit which has a control box. One of the function includes a rear fog light baypass. When you switch on the rear fogs you are supposed to switch them off again strait away but because the main lights are on the trailer fogs will stay on. I've included the instructions for the Lexus electrical kit. To be honest if your electrics are working OK it's not worth changing them. Although there is a CAN BUS on the 400h it doesn't help with the towing electrics. RX Towbar electrics.pdf

  41. Rwd v Fwd, is the answer to the lock question, along with wider tyres. My mate changed his beloved K reg, rwd, Volvo estate, for a fwd D5 estate. He had it for six years, and never stopped moaning about it being a royal pain in the arse to park at Tesco, compared to his old one.

  42. You preferably want to see a nice fully stamped up Lexus service history and possibly a recent hybrid health check certificate. These cars like most Lexus cars can take mileage very well, a few weak spots on these cars to check are the shock absorbers can leak and are quite costly to replace, rear brake calipers can seize I think because of under use as these cars use regenerative braking so the actual disc brakes are used less than a normal car and the exhaust can leak at the Y joint and check for rusty back boxes, some early cars can have paint bubbling corrosion along the front edge of the bonnet. There is no real way to check the hybrid system other than check for any warning lights and/or messages and check it operates as it should. Basically when cold it should always start up on the petrol engine to warm the car up, once up to temperature with the hybrid battery charged you should be able to very gently accelerate from stand still to around 20mph in silence on electric power alone, it’ll only go for about a mile or so on electric power alone in my experience, remember it’s not an electric car it’s still a predominately petrol car with electric assist. When the hybrid battery runs low the engine should kick in to start charging it, the engine should shut off when standing still most of the time unless it’s being used to charge the hybrid battery or other demands are placed on it such as by the climate control etc when it might not switch off. The petrol engine will turn on and off whilst you drive depending on acceleration, coasting, braking and going downhill and this should be almost seamless, the hybrid battery level will also rise and fall as you drive, don’t if you don’t get the battery level to the very top as this only really happens when you are driving down a long descent using lots of regen braking and it won’t stay full for long even then!!! When you put your foot down these cars are really fast and not much can keep up with them and the acceleration is very addictive!!! Even though they use a CVT transmission you still may feel what feels like a gear change under certain conditions, this is because the electric motor has a high and low range transmission and you sometimes feel it changing. The gauge to the left of the speedo is not a rev counter, instead it tells you how much the electric motor is being used, at the bottom of the gauge you will see a blue section, when the car uses regenerative braking the needle should enter this section to show the kinetic energy produced is charging the battery. That’s everything I can think of off the top of my head, sometimes the dash can have a bit of a creak or rattle but this is more of an irritation than anything and if your car does have the problem it depends on how annoying it might be to you, mine does it slightly but not enough to bother me. I’ve had an SE-L and currently have an SE, the only differences I can see is that the SE-L has radar cruise and a sunroof although my SE has a sunroof so it’s only the radar cruise I don’t have. Obviously all other usual used car checks apply and check all electrics and gadgets work as they should (there’s lots of toys on these!!!), good luck and keep us posted!!!

  46. You're right about German cars. I do about 1000 miles a week and its quite shocking the number of mercs I see broken down on the side of the roads waiting for recovery. In my job, the most important thing is reliability. I own a prius at the moment and apart from the usual service, i have had no issues. It has 170000 on the clock and the thing just wont die! Thanks for the advice. I have to make a decision now between a is300h premier on a 16 plate or the new facelift advance model 2017 for the same price

  47. I came to the IS 300h from a long line of BMWs - my last one being a 330i. Much as the 330i was a good drivers car with - a) constant roadworks on the motorways b) permanently congested A and B roads c) proliferation of ridiculously low speed limits enforced by an ever increasing number of fixed, mobile, average cameras d) the crumbling road network, e) increasing fuel prices and stupid VED decisions - after a day's test drive I was sold on the IS 300h. For this real world day to day driving the car and it's hybrid drive train really deliver. In fact I now look forward to driving again as the car is to me a perfect fit for what I have to face each day I go anywhere. I live in the South East and I can see if you live in a more remote part of the country there may be other factors but I wouldn't hesitate buying another IS 300h. A friend has a BMW 335d - very quick but in comparison sounds like a tractor and does not deliver the relaxing experience of the IS 300h in the cut and thrust of modern congested roads.

  48. The actual chassis/suspension set up on the IS300H is superb, in stock form I rate it above my old 335i and 350Z. But the hybrid drivetrain is abysmal if your looking for fun. For M way/day to day driving its fine, but in over 3 years of ownership ours have never been taken out for a Sunday blast, its just not fun to throw around a B road, real shame we never got the IS350 here in the UK :(. But I cannot critise the mpg you can achieve on a long run. You can get nearly 60mpg which having to use the hypermile.
