  1. It has been thesame pattern in multiple threads over time. Linass writes down a polarized opinion, other readers react to this and The Linas Conflict is born, he seems to thrive on conflict and hijacks the thread with a constant agressive and sometimes offending diarrhea of opinions. As long as others bite he will continue. i have been reading this blog less and less over time and that is the reason why. On topic i drove a 250 for 4 years and a 300 for 3. Both great cars in my opinion. 250 more refined and 300 more modern. 250 - buttersmooth engine but a little too weak for a six, not enough torque below 4000rpm, chassis a bit choppy and when really pushing the car it starts to fall through, steering too slow and brakes too weak, but a great cruiser with bankvault like buildquality. The 300 is newer and has a better overall package, roomier. Chassis lightyears better can handle many more horses. accelleration from standstill to some 40mph is way faster than the 250, above that it starts to slip. Both enjoyable but heavy drives . you cant go wrong with either of them really.

  2. So, when I bought my RX300 a couple of weeks ago, one of the things not working on it was the reversing camera. Something I now find pretty essential! Last weekend the plan was to see if my cheap £5 Chinese reversing camera could either produce a signal the sat nav unit could use, or even better replace the Lexus original. Well, I can report I've got the camera working and displaying pictures on the sat nav unit. It wasn't all smooth sailing, as the sat nav unit refused to display the signal from the reversing camera on it's own. There seems to be some feedback from the Lexus camera that lets the sat nav unit know it's connected. Without it the sat nav shows a blank screen. However, I'm not one to be beaten, so by keeping the rear PCB of the Lexus camera connected and just tapping the Chinese camera into the video line, I've now got a working reversing camera. The Chinese camera even clips into the original Lexus camera housing without modification. All I had to do was remove the guts of the old camera to make space. The Chinese camera requires 12v and the sat nav unit supplies 6v so I tapped into the 12v supply for the passenger side reversing light. That way power is only supplied when reversing. The wiring ended up like this. The yellow video wire from the old camera is cut and the new camera connected between the black and the yellow wires to the sat nav. The black, red and white wires stay connected in order to keep the sat nav displaying the video signal. As you can see the power leads off to the reversing light and the rear PCB of the original camera is still in place to provide the feedback signal. The PCB ended up wrapped in tape and tucked into the rear hatch. Once I'd proved the camera could work, I fitted it into the original housing, then the housing was screwed back onto the mounting bracket by the two screws and then bolted back in place in the hatch. It ended up looking ok: On the left is the old camera unit. It simply plugs onto the circuit board that stays connected, so I just unplugged it. Finally here's the result on the screen. It has the guide lines, but you can buy cameras without these and also with or without image mirroring. You just need to specify when ordering. This is one I already had so I wasn't fussy. The other thing to specify is it must be the American NTSC video standard to work with the sat nav, not the European PAL system. I haven't tried the fancy stuff like park assist yet as it hasn't been necessary. I'm just happy to be able to have working video. If the guide lines affect parking assist I might have to bite the bullet and fork out for a genuine camera, but we'll see. I hope this helps anyone with camera problems in future.

  3. 1. LS 400, Green |(looks grey) with dark skirting No MOT, it expired on 3rd May 2018. I have not seen the others but personally I would not buy any used car without an MOT.

  4. You are so right Malc, but sadly the exception becomes so hard to find. There have been no real Apprenticeship Schemes since probably the mid 1970`s and so experienced, competent and certified skilled people have been replaced by those without training and appropriate education.Hence replace rather than repair. Value for money is what we all hope to achieve and you, me, Richie, Darren and no doubt many others all perceive value for money in our own way. What remains is that we each be satisfied with what we have received.

  5. in the defence of my local Honda main dealer, they wanted to charge a fixed price to replace the front discs and pads on my 2006 Legend ( having been picked up on the last MOT and main service check and when the airbag recall was done ) and the rarity of the beast meant that my indy guy who looks after our cars recommended i go with the Honda quote as he couldn't buy the parts for the price they quoted..... ..... they probably had stock they couldn't hope to shift ..... never seeing a Honda legend from one year to the next ............. being much much rarer than the Ls whatever Honda kept to the price and the final fixed price bill emerged with just @£40 labour incl VAT,.................... about 15 mins labour charge. Not all main dealers are rip-offs at all ☺️ Malc

  6. When I buy a car, as we have done with the 450 we are picking up Friday, I will pay slightly more / travel further for a full Lexus history as oppose independent. It is generally one of the first items an advert will state as it is a good selling point and some buyers do look for, so will add some, if only very slight value to the car (certainly not enough to justify the extortionate costs). I was planning on changing my IS at about 3 or 4 years old so did main dealer servicing, however now I am planning on keeping until 10+years old, i will switch to local independents. Think it depends on how long you plan to keep the car and how easy a sale you want. Personally opinion (from talking to friends and own experience), I find main dealers are more likely to do unnecessary work. one of my best mates is a mechanic with his own garage. When my Mazda went in for a Main dealer service I got a repair quote for all sorts of things totalling well over £1k. Decided to drive the 60miles to visit my mate, we went round all the items together and found the only thing wrong was a shock absorber that was starting to leak and charged about £60 to change it, nothing else they stated needed repairing. The car happily did another 75,000miles without needing any further repair work. have quite a few other stories from people that are very similar, one at a honda dealer where a bloke was charged for new brakes all round, and they didn't change the disc's as stated. He did get a full refund for the work, but had he not been mechanically minded he'd have never known.

  7. Believe it or not I was on the M1 travelling from Leeds to Sheffield to deliver my car to a trader was was buying it off me for his stock. He still bought it at the original agreed price after I told him I had heard this low sound at 70-80mph. Absolutely nothing up to 70mph. He said his close friend at Lexus Sheffield, the after sales manager, had mentioned this issue to him previously saying some customers notice it and some don't. With the audio on most times I can't say I did myself but noticed it on the very day I was selling my 460. I'm now looking for a Lexus GS300h Premier (Hen's Teeth) which have a few toys but extremely low road tax and better economy which is why I am changing cars. Enjoyed my 460 over the 3 years I had it. Best car to date.

  8. Which Lexus dealer is this? I’m shocked and dismayed they are trying to wriggle out of their legal obligations like this. Also, if it is a genuine Lexus dealer you’re buying from a Hybrid Health Check ought to be a given?! I dealt with an extremely slippery salesperson at Lexus Edgware Road when I bought my GS450. If I were you I’d make sure you’ve got everything in writing. Emails are good for this as the date and time is recorded too. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

  9. Hi all, I have just signed up, as i have put a deposit down tonight on a GS 300h Executive Edition. Possible pickup tomorrow night, dealer dependant. Coming over from an Audi A6. Also have an Audi A3, Honda Civic and Mazda MX5 in the house. The dealer has been superb so far, i am looking forward to what promises to be very pleasant ownership experience. Thanks, Phil.

  14. Is the courtesy car had been half decent then I would have enjoyed it more but a 1l Ford Ka just does not hack it....my wife's sewing machine makes a better sound and is probably more powerful. And the Ka was just flimsy and tinny and was reporting 36mpg around town.....the IS250 gives me 30mpg around town. Value of Ka...£13250!!

  22. LED interior lights won't blow the ecu fuse. They'll just blow the standard fuse for interior lights if they play up. Just dont change them with the door open and make sure all lights are switched off. Shouldn't be a problem, loads of people have done it on the IS in the States

  23. Finished off swapping stuff over today, one rear door card had a mark on the speaker panel so I swapped it, the wood doesn't quite match so I swapped the wood which involves loads of screws to take apart the door trim... swapped a door window trim as one was dented on the new one, small and not very noticable but why not seeing as I had a good one... It is fortunate that the small cosmetic damage on both cars were all on different parts, the new car now has a near totally immaculate interior and with a small amount of paintwork will be near mint outside. it now drives just as it should so it's getting close to where I want it... Couldn't resist a bit of bling for the expanse of wood on the center console, my brother bought some of these a while ago, they are lazer cut stainless, incredible quality and look near original... Before... After.... Not very photogenic it certainly looks better in the flesh, I like it as it breaks up the large blank panel.. Next job is a full deep clean inside and out...

  24. This should reassure you, just taken a picture of my pump. As you can see the old model is quite different so your ones have definitely been changed. Given this was a safety recall, it would be very reckless of someone not carrying out the work.

  26. Thanks very much for your thoughts. I have AA European cover and forgot to add I had the emissions test done again today to check if there was a real problem and it passed with a mid range result.

  29. Attacked this issue today, it was really bugging me! Ripped the engine and box back out, suprisingly very very easy with the box attached, the weight of the box put the engine at a good angle to lift out. then attacked the turret with the grinder aswell as the side of the manifold. The weld on the manifold was pretty thick so i just flattened this off. I did have pics of the turret half way through the process but they was blurry, wished i had checked them before carrying on! 1 of the manifold weld. Then gave it a rub down, bit of primer and quick spray with some gloss black and threw the engine back in. Again these pics was blurred! So moment of truth, all bolted up and in position there is clearance of around 4mm, im happy to let this go and see how i get on. The mounts are solid and even shaking it side to side using a bar there is no movement at all just the whole car shook 😂 Very hard to see the clearance on the pic but im happy with the out come. Just for the fun of it i decided to quickly hang the rear section of the exhaust up.... its so so big compared to the original exhaust, i bet my neighbours saw this and thought oh god there goes the neighbourhood 😂 so now im back on track next up is the valve clearances, need to order me an adjustable exhaust gear and cambelt. Also looking to sort the additional loom for the AEM v2, this needs routing inside the cabin and behind the glove box. I have already previously cut the hole for this on the inner wing and i have now got a door loom grommet to use.

  32. Well, as above really. Alas, I can’t make it - I’d need to take a week’s worth of leave from work and that wouldn’t please MrsFunex. Not at all. I’ll just have to watch a live stream and get the timing data from the WEC website instead.. it won’t be quite the same! Plenty of great memories - the ones of the racers arriving at Indianapolis out of the forest at 2am with brakes aglow, and the Corvette C7.Rs splitting the air apart along the Mulsanne straight in the early-morning mist will stay with me always!

  33. so countless threads later, on this same topic and you still have not grasped the notion that the IS300h is NOT and was never marketed as a Performance car neither is it a Full blown Luxury Car. Its there to fill the gap for those seeking a reliable, reasonably priced saloon with a touch of Luxury toys, decent MPG, cheap road tax and adequate performance. read again i said adequate not mind blowing as you keep going on about how slow it when Lexus figures proves otherwise when compared to your 250 so your countless talk of it being noisy is rubbish its was not designed and marketed to be a quiet car again countless talk of the way it drives is again dog poo as it was not marketed nor intended to drive like a sports car get this into your head. more over, no one has put a gun to your head forcing you to like the IS300h like every other car, it also has its market audience and its not you so no need to keep slating it..

  37. Sorry, very old thread I know. But, for anyone else who's viewing this now, having been a personal lines insurance broker for 4 years, I can give some input. It's a double edged sword and it depends entirely on the type of accident. If, for example, you are referring to an accident that you had with somebody else (so another car was involved) then you should always report it! There'll be plenty of people who don't and get away with it, but it is a ticking time bomb. Whenever a driver has an accident and the insurers are going to have to pay something (which every insurer does, it's just a matter of whether they get the costs back or not) they will likely do something called a CUE check. This stands for Claims and Underwriting Exchange. In other words, your accident history is recorded on a central database and it can be found. So, even if you didn't report an accident..it's likely (based on the fact that the other person may have reported it to their company, even just as a notification rather than a claim) that your insurers can still find out about it. As a previous post suggests, this is a very bad situation to be in. Your insurers are well within their rights to cancel or even void your entire policy (voiding being from inception). Quite frankly, unless it's a genuine error on your part, I had no sympathy for people who did this and then found themselves in this situation. My advice, don't do it. There will be implications of notifying your insurers. PM me for individual detail. On the other hand, if you're referring to a single vehicle accident (you've hit a gate post, wall, scratched your car, hit an animal, etc... So, no other vehicle or person is involved at all) then this isn't necessarily one to report. You would easily be able to go and get this damage fixed yourself and your insurers would not need to know, it is also unlikely that they would ever find out. You would only go through your insurance if the damage is too bad for you to afford on your own. However, in this circumstance you would likely be liable to pay your excess and it will impact your insurance premium. If you'd like any clarification on the above, or just a bit more detail then PM me. Thanks. Sent from my iPhone using Lexus OC
